Decatur,
TX (4/1/2007) –
The shifting sands of Echeconnee Off-Road Park challenge
the talents of any racer, regardless of age, class or
machine. During Round 4 of the 2007 ITP/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA
Motocross Championship Series (MX Nationals) at Echeconne
Off-Road Park on April 14th and 15th in Lizella, Georgia
many a racer had high aspirations of conquering the sandy
conditions of the circuit. Some prevailed and went home
champions. Others failed and found themselves licking
the Georgia sand from their ego wounds as they made their
way home.
Pro Am Classes
#10
Greg Gee
Greg Gee of Simcoe Ontario, Canada was not one of those
who had any sand infested wounds to nurse. Gee, a Honda
mounted Pro/Am and College 16-24 class racer, brought
a strong ride and a sense of purpose to Georgia and walked
away a winner in both classes. In the Pro/Am class Gee
won his qualifier (moto 1) on Saturday in a convincing
fashion, leading the pack with close to a 12 second lead
to the checkers for the win. In the final moto on Sunday
Gee once again walked away with the win giving him the
overall round win and his second event win on the season.
His performance edged Clay Holmes out of the Pro/AM points
lead and put Gee in the driver’s seat with 103 points
to Holmes’ 76 points. Holmes, after winning his
Pro/Am qualifier on Saturday plummeted to an 11th place
finish on Sunday which netted him a 7th overall placement
and a sever slip in the points standings. Gee repeated
his Pro/Am performance in the College 16-24 class and
with 1-1 moto tallies took that class win also.

#1
Angela Butler
She’s a fun loving lady with a talent that would
put most men racers to shame. Angela Butler of Laveen,
Arizona, wife of Scott Butler (Lonestar’s Keith
Little’s mechanic) and daughter of Jack Moore,
a long time ATV racing advocate, put her Moto TST training
in high gear and, once again, put a shellacking on ’06
MX National Champion Joe Byrd’s wife, Heather
Byrd. Out of the eight motos run during the first four
rounds of this year’s ITP/Moose Racing MX Nationals,
Butler won seven of the eight. During the first moto
on Saturday at Echeconne, Butler slipped in behind Byrd
and stayed there, taking the second place spot and her
one and only moto loss. Knowing and trusting her capabilities,
the second moto was not for Byrd to savor. Butler made
a first lap pass on Byrd and set sail to the checkers,
leaving Byrd to taste another defeat and swallow a little
Georgia sand laced grit. Butler’s fourth win in
a row put her in a commanding position in the overall
point’s standings. She led with 120 points to
Byrd’s 100, followed in third by Adrienne Cooper
of Arizona in third with 77 points.
