Decatur,
TX (4/1/2007) –
Less than one week after round 2 of the ATVA Motocross
Nationals, racers headed south to Texas for round 3
at Oak Hill MX Park. Unlike last year, racers weren’t
greeted by an arctic blast and gusty winds, but instead,
it was severe weather and torrential downpours on Thursday
and Friday, which nearly caused the event to be cancelled.
The Oak Hill MX Park was in the bull’s-eye of
a low pressure system which spawned tornadoes within
miles of the track along with wide spread flooding,
which made it nearly impossible to even get to the track
and park. The sandy soil at Oak Hill was sucking up
vehicles like quicksand, which made it nearly impossible
to park and all practice was cancelled on Friday in
an attempt to salvage the track for the weekend racing.

John Ragon was the only Lost Creek Cycle racer
to head to Texas with Dunk and Haavisto remaining
home to practice |
Fortunately, after Mother Nature’s last big hurrah
Friday night with another round of storms, the skies
cleared and the temperatures soared into the 80’s
on Saturday, which allowed the track to finally begin
to dry out, which was accelerated by its sandy soil
and its excellent drainage system.

After much anticipation, racers were finally able to
hit track Saturday morning for some practice before
the beginning of the first Motos. The racing latest
till dark as the Racer Production crew vigorously worked
on keeping the track maintained, and it wasn’t
all work and no play because by early Sunday morning,
the crew scattered Easter eggs around the spectator
areas for an egg hunt for the kids with various eggs
containing tickets for some cool prizes provided by
Racer Productions and the Pro Racers, which was had
the kids racing around the infield searching for the
eggs.
With less than a full gate of Pro Riders signing up,
there was no need for a qualifier on Saturday, so the
Pros had two practice sessions, and a third on Sunday
morning, which was utilized to secure gate selection
for Pro Moto One. Once again, Chad Wienen was the fastest
pro on the track recording a 2:13:148, which was nearly
two seconds faster than the next fastest time set by
Dustin Wimmer.
