ATVA Motocross Nationals
Round #3 - Links
Decatur, TX (4/1/2007) – With the rains that fell on Thursday and Friday before the races had even started, I was looking for the pairs of animals heading to the Ark with all of the flooding that occurred. There were times that I was thinking that the race would not go on as scheduled because there was no way the ground could hold all of the water. Believe it or not, the sun came out Saturday morning and the track work started with a vengeance. At a few minutes past 10:00 AM, practice was under way, and some of the racers packed up and headed out prior to the start of any of the racing and they wound up missing some spectacular conditions. After a sloppy practice and some beautiful sunshine the track was ready for some awesome racing.

#10 Greg Gee Pro Am Moto Two Holeshot

Pro-Am rider Greg Gee must have really liked the conditions because they let him win both Moto 1 and Moto 2 way out in front of the pack. Not only did Greg take the wins and the Pro-Am overall he did it with the fastest amateur lap time of the day coming in with a 2.07.662. Second place went to Cody Harris who finished with a 2-4 in his Motos followed by Cody Miller taking 5-2 finishes in his Motos.

#11 Jacob Hakala was on his way to another top finish until a get off in the whoops sent him back to 14th
#310 Cody Harris finally broke free from the Gremlins to finish both Motos and claim 2nd Overall

In the Women’s Pro-Am class, Angela Butler proved to be the queen of the whoops as Heather Byrd was doing her best to keep up with Angela, but on a track that had whoops on nearly every straight section, today was not her day. Even though Heather got the Holeshot in Moto 2, it was a matter of a few turns and the first long whoop section before Angela took the lead and ran in the lead to the finish. Heather Byrd finished a strong second place with her teammate, Adrienne Cooper claiming the third spot. Adrienne Cooper stepped up to this class at the end of the 2006 season in Kentucky after wrapping up the Women’s Sport Championship. Her third place finish at Oak Hill MX, boosted her into third in points past Michelle Natalie, who didn’t race at Oak Hill.
