ATVA ITP Moose Racing
National Motocross Series
Round #9 - Steel City
June 17-18, 2006

Delmont, PA – For the first time ever, the ATV Motocross Nationals roared into Steel City Raceway for the ATV Stampede promoted by Racer Productions. The MX National is normally held at High Point, but with already several events scheduled at High Point this May and June, the racing action was moved to Steel City, and the Pro Racers and Spectators were impressed with the facility as it provided some of the best spectator viewing of almost any track on the tour, and the Pros felt it was one of the most challenging tracks of the season with some technical rhythm sections of doubles & tabletops along with some high speed off chamber turns.

It wouldn't take long befor the Steel City track bit a rider, and it was none other than John Natalie Jr when he crashed during his final practice on Friday, which left him with broken wrist, but he didn't get the name "Ironman" for nothing, and and he wasn't going to let his injured wrist stop him from racing this weekend even if he wasn't anywhere near 100%, so after a visit to Doc Ragon at the Mobile Medical Unit, he was ready to race both Motos.

Pro Moto One
With a full gate of 20 Pros, Doug Gust would launch his Suzuki LT-R450 out front early with the Holeshot followed by Keith Little and Josh Creamer. By the second lap, Little would use his EDT skills and slice his way past Gust and into the lead with Josh Creamer tangling with Dustin Wimmer and dropping back to last place.

Several top contenders were out of the running early with Joe Byrd drifting off the side of one of the tabletops and down into a mud pit, which dropped him down nearly a lap, which was a big break for John Natalie Jr cruising around the track not only dealing with his wrist injury, but also some mechanical issues as well.

Travis Spader would be the next to go down hard through the rhythm section, which left his Yamaha YFZ450 shredded from the impact, but lucky, Travis Spader bailed from his ATV and escaped without any serious injuries.

Out Front, "Digger" Doug Gust wasn't going to settle for second place as he reeled Keith Little by the halfway point and made the pass to regain the lead where he stayed to the checkered flag followed by Little. Dustin Wimmer and Jeremy Lawson battled for the third spot till the checkered with Wimmer holding onto the third while Jeremiah Jones rounded out the top five.

Pro Moto Two
Doug Gust, Jeremy Lawson, and Travis Spader Pileup
For the start of the second Moto, it would be Keith Little grabbing the Holeshot followed by Harold Goodman and Jeremiah Jones. Unfortunately both Doug Gust and Jeremy Lawson tangled heading into turn three, which had them locked together along with Travis Spader.

Keith Little would maintain the lead for the first half of the race once again, but he eventually he would begin feeling the pressure from Jeremiah Jones as he charged his way past Goodman and in behind Little. It wouldn’t take long for Jones to make the pass and take over the lead with Little maintaining second place.

Yamaha’s Pat Brown was on a mission as he chased after Harold Goodman for the majority of the race, and he finally found his opening in the final laps of the race to take over the third spot with Dustin Wimmer moving into 5th place after passing Kory Ellis.
Joe Byrd bad luck continued as he once again ran into problems, which dropped him back to the rear of the pack while Doug Gust charged his way through the pack and within a quad length of the Podium finish as he crossed the finish literally on the rear tires of Kory Ellis, which was one position shy of Podium finish.

Keith Little would earn the Overall win with his pair of second place finishes, and Jeremiah Jones would claim the second spot with his Moto two win. The final Podium spot would go to Dustin Wimmer.

Wrap-Up
Steel City proved to be a hit with the racers and fans, and time will only tell if another ATV National will be held at this incredible facility as ATV racing may resume as High Point in 2007.

One thing is for certain, Keith Little is on fire as he heads to his home state of Alabama for round 10 of the ATVA Motocross Nationals at Mill Creek MX Park in Pell City, AL this Fourth of July Weekend.
