New
Berlin, NY (7/20/2015)
– Round eight of the 2015 Mt. Dew AMA ATV
Motocross National Championship Series returned
to the historic Unadilla MX in New Berlin, NY on
July 11-12th.
Known as the “home of horsepower,” with famous
obstacles such as the “gravity cavity” and “sky
shot,” Unadilla is always a highly anticipated
stop of the series for racers and fans alike.
After a season plagued with rainy weather, everyone
was grateful for the sunny, blue skies that shone
down on the rolling hills of New Berlin, NY for
the weekend.
As always, the Pro-Am class was stacked with
competition. Yamaha rider Nick Gennusa took the
overall win and extended his points lead with
his 2-1 moto finishes. In the first moto, Gennusa
laid down the fastest lap of the class with a
206.851, but had to work his way up after a midpack
start. Gunnusa ran out of time to catch the first
place rider of Tyler Hamrick, but was sitting
good going into the second moto. When the gate
dropped on moto two, Gennusa quickly moved into
the first place position, and stayed there until
the checkered flag waved.

The number eight rider of Cam Covil rode his
Honda to a second place overall in Pro-Am. After
a third place finish in the first moto, Covil
came out to take the lead early on in moto two.
Covil put up a battle with class winner, Gennusa,
but was overtaken on the third lap. Covil kept
up a strong ride and remained in second place
for the rest of the moto to land him the second
place overall finish. Covil holds down fifth place
in points with 115.

Root River Racing’s Sam Rowe rounded out the
Pro Am podium with third place. In the first moto,
Rowe finished fifth. Rowe improved on his moto
one finish in the second moto, where he put in
a solid third place ride, which earned him his
third place overall finish on the day. “I crashed
the Wednesday before Unadilla and my back is still
really sore, so I was struggling on the track.
I ended up getting third overall in Pro-Am. I
was ecstatic about my finish considering I wasn’t
100%,” said Rowe. Rowe is currently in fourth
place with 116 points, but he is just two points
away from third place, so expect Rowe to be pushing
for it in the upcoming two rounds.
