The 2015 AMA Mt. Dew ATV Motocross Championship
Series returned to Sunset Ridge MX in northern Illinois
for round six. Yamaha’s Chad Wienen clinched the
overall win with fellow Yamaha racer, Thomas Brown
claiming the second spot on the podium followed
by Corrosion Specialties’ Joel Hetrick in third.

Anticipation was high as the Pro ATV Motocross
Championship points lead was on the line between
three time defending champion, Chad Wienen, and
Corrosion Specialties/ Hetrick Racing’s Joel Hetrick.
As moto one approached, fans lined the fences
while Mother Nature added to the anticipation
with dropping temperatures, cool breeze, and dark
looming clouds that rolled in, threatening to
add another challenge to this race track. The
rain held off and provided a dry first moto, but
the second moto was quite wet, which really tested
the racers.

rider Chad Wienen was second place off the start
of the first moto, but quickly moved around Joel
Hetrick to secure his first place position, where
he would stay until the checkered flag was waved.

Wienen’s first place moto one finish did not
come easy as Corrosion Specialties/ Hetrick Racing’s
Joel Hetrick mounted several battles throughout
the race to provide some excitement for the spectators.
“It was a good battle, my Yamaha ripped off the
start and with being at my hometown track, it
doesn’t get much better than this,” said Wienen.

Moto two is when the wet conditions came into
play. Wienen would start in third on the second
moto, but waste no time moving into second place
position, but wasn’t able to catch Brown. Wienen
played it smart and ran a solid moto in the second
spot, which secured him the overall win at his
homestate track, Sunset Ridge MX. Wienen’s overall
win, extended his points lead to fifteen points
over Hetrick heading into the final four rounds
of the season.
