Round 5 - Links

Nashport, OH (6/26/2014) - Round five of the 2014 Mt. Dew AMA ATV Motocross Championships saw Tyler Hamrick claim his first Pro-am overall win of the season at Briarcliff MX in Nashport, OH while Katie Mette also took home her first win in the Women’s class to tighten the championship points race.

This was the first time for the series to head to Briarcliff MX. Owner and ATV racer, Jeremy Osborne, has aspired to make a national caliber track for several years and his dream finally came true with this round. The track was fast and well laid out, and the facilities were very good for an introductory round.

Briarcliff MX ATV Motocross

Briarcliff MX attracted a large crowd of spectators out to watch the racing action

Unfortunately, there was an usually high number of crashes, and several were season ending for some of the top competitors, and Pro / Pro-Am Racer, Nick Moser was one of them on the list. Moser suffered serious injuries from Saturday’s crash and was rushed to the hospital, where he still remains. While he is expected to make a full recovery, Moser is definitely out for the season. Also, Jeremy LeDonne was seriously injured as well to name a few, and we at ATVriders.com wish everyone a speedy recovery. You can help out each racer and their family's by donating to their Go Fund Me pages for (Nick Moser) and (Jeremy LeDonne).

As the gate dropped in moto one of the Pro-am class, Joe Byrd Quad Riding School’s Cam Covil grabbed the holeshot and was quickly followed by Jeffrey Rastrelli and Tyler Hamrick. In the second lap, Tyler Hamrick was able to make a move on both Rastrelli and Covil to take over the lead. Hamrick led for the rest of the moto to take the checkered flag.

Cam Covil grabbed the holeshot in both Pro-Am Motos. Unfortunately, Covil suffered a season ending back injury in the final moto

In lap two of the second moto, Cam Covil took the holeshot but the red flag flew after Nick Moser went down hard and was seriously injured. On the restart, Covil again grabbed the holeshot, but Tyler Hamrick was inside the top five and charged his way into the second spot behind Jeffrey Rastrelli.

Tyler Hamrick ATV MX

Tyler Hamrick leads Cam Covil & Ronnie Higgerson over one of the many jumps at Briarcliff MX in Nashport, OH. Hamrick finished 1-2 giving him his first Pro-Am Overall Win of the season

Hamrick’ 1-2 finishes gave him the overall pro-am win. “The first moto I made a couple quick passes and took over the lead. In moto two I got fourth in the restart. There were a couple of battles out front and I knew what I needed to get to take the win, so I just put my head down and went for it,” said Hamrick.

Jeffrey Rastrelli, who had to be cleared by medics to race on Sunday due to crash he suffered in the pro motos on Saturday, looked good as he came off the start in second place, but he dropped to third when Hamrick took over the lead, which is where Rastrelli stayed for the rest of the moto battling with Covil in the second spot.

Jeffrey Rastrelli ATV Motocross

After crashing on Saturday, JB Racing's Jeffrey Rastrelli finished 3-1 to earn second overall in the Pro-Am Class at Round 5

Rastrelli was on top of his game for the second moto. Rastrelli was in fourth early in the first lap, but charged his way through the competition and took over the lead in lap six, where he also recorded the fastest lap time of the moto.  Rastrelli never looked back as he went on to claim the moto two win, and his 3-1 finishes gave him second place overall for the day.

“I was still pretty banged up from my crash on Saturday, but I went out there and did the best I could in the first moto. In the second moto, I was able to pull it together a little more and had a good start and took the win,” said Rastrelli.
