Honda's Josh Upperman was having a season
best race as he was on his way to a Podium
finish |
As racers made their way through the eighth lap,
Dustin Wimmer caught up to 2nd place Josh Upperman,
which seemed to light a fire under Chad Wienen who
proceeded to run the fastest lap of the race with
a time of 2.27.803. Also in lap eight, Josh Creamer
got by Pat Brown to take over 6th place. In the
ninth lap, Wimmer made his move to take 2nd place
away from Upperman and began to gain ground on Wienen.
In the final lap, Greg Gee, who had made a fantastic
comeback from his 1st lap wreck, was applying
the pressure to Cale Downen. Gee ran his fastest
lap time in the final lap of the 11 lap race and
made his way around Downen, securing a top 10
finish.
While Wimmer was closing the gap on teammate
Wienen, there was not enough time for him catch
Chad before he reached the checkered flag and
took the win. “I got bumped a couple of
times in the first couple turns, which put me
behind,” said the 2008 champ. “Even
though I didn’t win, I still had fun. The
track was awesome and was in really good condition,”
said Dustin who had to settle for the second spot
on the podium.

After
a season of best luck & injury, Suzuki's
Chad Wienen was finally able to claim the
ultimate prize, a #1 Plate from the AMA
Pro ATV Open Motocross Invitational |
Josh Upperman rode a very impressive and consistent
race to take the final spot on the podium, which
is his first Pro podium finish of the season.
Doug Gust crossed the finish line in fourth with
Can-Am/Warner Racing’s John Natalie rounding
out the top five. Josh Creamer, who has made amazing
comebacks in the last couple of races, made his
way up to claim 6th place, followed by Yamaha’s
Pat Brown in seventh, while Harold Goodman, Keith
Little and Greg Gee rounded out the top ten.
As Chad Wienen celebrates his coveted victory
and the final National event of the 2008 season
comes to a close, most racers will head home to
nurse injuries with both Josh Creamer & John
Natalie confirmed to be schedule for surgery in
the coming weeks. Creamer will be having his ACL
repaired and Natalie will have shoulder surgery
while the rest of the racers will enjoy some well
deserved R&R, before the ATVA awards banquet
scheduled for November 1st in Gatlinburg, TN,
where many will be honored for their amazing performances
throughout the 2008 AMA Motocross National season.
