Delmont, PA (7/8/2013) – Perfect weather finally appeared for the seventh round of the 2013 AMA Mt. Dew ATV Motocross Nationals. The defending champion, Chad Wienen, earned his fifth win in a row at the round by scoring 1-2 in the motos. Pennsylvania’s own Joel Hetrick took second with Wienen Motorsports’ Thomas Brown rounding out the pro podium.

Maxxis Tire’s Chad Wienen started out the day on fire by claiming the ATVriders.com Fastest Qualifier Award.  Wienen continued his speed during moto one. He was in third as the pros rounded the first turn; Wienen took over the second spot on lap five and began to pressure John Natalie who was leading. After two laps of trailing the Ironman, Wienen was able to make a pass on lap eight. He then clicked it into high gear, even turning the fastest lap of the moto on lap nine, a quick 01:49.345. Wienen kept his Yamaha out front until the checkers, taking the moto win by 03.916.

“It was a really great race. We were really able to give all the fans a great show and put on some good racing,” said Wienen after the moto win.

Wienen had another solid start in moto two; he again was in third as the pack went through the first turn. He made a pass on Josh Upperman and took over second position on lap six.  Although he had the position he was unable to make any ground on Joel Hetrick, who was leading.

“I am really pumped for this weekend. I got my sixth win of the season and gained valuable championship points,” regarded Wienen. The defending champion currently holds a 45 point lead in the AMA Pro ATV Class.

Joel Hetrick earned his second podium finish this season at Steel City

Corrosion Specialties Joel Hetrick took second overall for the round after earning a scorecard of 4-1. Hetrick was second off the gate in moto one, he ran in the second spot until Wienen passed him on lap five. Hetrick charged and attempted to regain his position, but went off the track instead. The mishap pushed him back to fourth. He moved into the third spot on lap five, but was passed by Thomas Brown on lap twelve. He maintained fourth until the checkers.

Moto two went much better for the young racer; Hetrick grabbed the SSi Decals Holeshot Award. He ran with the lead from that point on. He had mustered a 08.339 second lead by lap seven. Hetrick never faltered and took the checkers by an impressive 06.731.

“I’m really happy that I was able to get back up to the podium this weekend. I had two good starts and was able to push to a moto 2 win. It feels great to get back up on the box and I’m looking forward to getting to the top spot,” said Hetrick who is currently ranked fifth in the AMA Pro ATV point’s chase.
