Round 4 of the 2012 AMA Pro ATV Motocross Series was held at Sunset Ridge MX track in Walnut, IL, which is corn & wind mill country

The weather was nothing short of hot for this round, with temps in the mid 90’s and high humidity that took a toll on many racers’ endurance. The track was good but got rough as the day progressed, but it didn’t seem to matter much to Chad Wienen who was determined to take the hometown win.

Yamaha/Walsh Racecraft’s Chad Wienen got a good start in the first moto, in the number three spot behind Nick DeNoble and Harold Goodman. Wienen waited patiently for a good opportunity to pass and made his way around Goodman for second in the second lap. Wienen then pressured DeNoble and took over the lead in lap three.

Once out front, Wienen consistently increased his lead until the mid-way point when a bobble allowed Joel Hetrick to close in slightly. Wienen was not about to let his lead slip away and put the hammer down, winning the first moto by over ten seconds.

“The fan support out here is awesome and I am so stoked to take the first moto win here at home,” said Wienen excitedly after his moto one win.

In moto two, Wienen again had a decent start, but went over a berm just after the start and fell to fifth. Wienen wasted no time in getting back in position to start picking off the competition. Wienen quickly began to move up and was in third by the second lap. Wienen was in close behind Thomas Brown and John Natalie and it was a three way challenge for the lead with all three racers battling fiercely.

Wienen eventually got by Natalie and started to close in on Brown, who was in the lead. Wienen began to apply the pressure and was able to make the pass on Brown. Wienen began to pull away, but in the final lap, Natalie caught up and closed in. with only a half a lap left to go, Wienen and Natalie were almost side by side, and at the checkered flag, Wienen took the win by only .02 seconds.
