Millfield,
OH (7/2/2011) – Baldwin
Motorsports’ Josh Upperman came away with
his first pro win of the season and is closing in
on the pro points lead, while Can-Am’s Chase
Snapp’s amazing moto one win helped to earn
him the number two spot on the podium and Yamaha’s
Thomas Brown put together two solid motos to round
out the top three at round number eight of the 2011
AMA ATV Motocross Championships.
The Can-Am/Motoworks team took a hit this past
week after both Chad Wienen and John Natalie,
Jr. announced injuries. Points leader, Chad Wienen,
suffered a broken back in a crash while practicing
at his home last week. Thankfully, Wienen is up
and walking around and is expected to make a full
recovery, but his injuries have put an end to
his championship run and his 2011 season. John
Natalie is also on the injured list after breaking
his arm, but the Ironman chose to race anyway
in order to salvage points.

Pro ATV Motocross Racing made its debut
at Sunday Creek MX track in Millfield, Ohio.
The race location isn't new to national
events with the GNCC Racing series being
here since the 90's, but for the ATV MX
race, the Russell family has been working
for months to level out the parking and
convert the MX track to a National level
track, which attracted out a season high

There was almost a full gate for the pro class
with 19 riders on the starting line for moto one.
Rain had been falling off and on all morning at
Sunday Creek in Millfield, OH, which made for
quite messy conditions as the gate dropped, but
the weather cleared for moto two, which worked
to the advantage of Josh Upperman.

SSI Holeshot Awards |
Baldwin Motorsports’ Josh Upperman took
his signature holeshot and was looking strong
out front early in the first lap, but Upperman
made a mistake and went off the track. “I
was in first and that was what I wanted, but I
got a little distracted and went off the track
and fell back to third, but I got back on track
and finished in second; so I am happy,”
said Upperman.

Josh Upperman celebrates his Ohio homestate
win at Sunday Creek MX |
In the second moto it was al all out drag race
between Josh Upperman and Thomas Brown off the
start going into the first turn. The pair were
tire to tie going into turn one, but Upperman
was able to edge out Brown, grabbing the holeshot
and the lead. Upperman was able to pull away and
create a nice five second gap between him and
the rest of the competition as battles raged on
behind him. Upperman kept a steady pace and held
his lead all the way to the checkered flag for
the moto win and his first overall win of the
season.
“It feels really good to get my first win
of the season. I couldn’t wish for anything
better. I wanted to get a good start and I just
put my head down. I knew Thomas Brown and Chase
Snapp were close, but I just tried to keep a good
lead and I was able to ride a good race. I have
to thank everyone at Baldwin and all of my family,
friends and family that came out here to support
me this weekend and all of my sponsors for all of
their support in helping me be up here,” said
Upperman, who is now second in the points chase
and only seven points off of leader Natalie.
