Delmont,
PA (5/21/2011) –
It was all new faces on the pro podium for round
number six of the 2011 AMA ATV Motocross Championships
as a weird series of events allowed Joe Byrd to
take his first overall win of the season, while
Yamaha/Ballance Racing’s Thomas Brown put
in a hard charge to take second and Can-Am’s
rookie pro Chase Snapp claimed his first ever podium
position in third.
Good weather and good track conditions were on
hand at Steel City as racers were getting ready
for what would be one of the most intense and
interesting rounds of racing so far this season
as positions were swapped and mechanical failures
brought heartbreak for some and gave others a
shot at the podium, including former two-time
champion Joe Byrd.

American Honda’s Joe Byrd was back on top
of the podium for round six. Moto one was rather
uneventful for Byrd as he held on for a fourth
place finish after battling it out with Nick DeNoble.
Byrd, who has been plagued with issues all season,
finally got some vindication in moto two as he
shot off the line in second and after just a couple
of laps, took the lead away from Nick DeNoble
and pulled away to take his first moto win and
overall win of the season.
“Getting a good start is everything and
my DASA powered Honda got me out front and I just
felt good out there. We had some issues earlier
this year and things are getting better now. I’ve
been working hard and it’s about time we
got back out front,” said Byrd, sounding
a little relieved on the podium.

Racecraft's Joe Byrd got off to a 2nd place
start in Moto 2 behind Nick DeNoble, but
Byrd took over the lead in lap 4 when DeNoble
was sidelined with mechanical issues. Yamaha's
Thomas Brown challenged Byrd for the lead
with the pair both going for the overall
win, but in the end, Byrd held off Brown
to claim his first podium & overall
win of the season

Yamaha's
#84 Thomas Brown battled back & forth
with Can-Am's Chase Snapp once again in
Moto 1, but in the end Brown finished on

Yamaha/Ballance Racing’s Thomas Brown seemed
to get all the bugs worked out of his program
for this round and claimed the number two spot
on the podium. Brown was in fourth off the line
in the first moto and was challenging Josh Upperman
for third, but Brown came under fire from Chase
Snapp and the pair would battle intensely for
most of the moto before Brown made a mistake and
allowed Snapp to get around him.
“I really wanted it coming in here and
it was a great race and I am happy to be here,”
said Brown from the moto one podium.
