MX |
Walnut,IL
(5/12/2011) – With the threat of
rain looming all weekend the skies parted and the
weekend was set for some great Pro-Am Racing on
the final day at Sunset Ridge MX. With 5 different
moto winners prior to this weekend the door was
left open for a new winner and riders to close the
gap on the points leader Casey Martin aboard his
Moto-Xperts Honda TRX450R ATV.
Kyle Fix motored his KTM 450SX ATV into a Holeshot
position in Moto 1 and rode his heart out early
in the moto with Jeffrey Rastrelli and Aaron Meyer
trying hard to chase him down for the win. Rastrelli
managed to get by Fix and hold the lead for a
while until Honda mounted rider Aaron Meyer took
control of the race and held off an eager Rastrelli
from taking the top spot on the podium.
The race ended with Meyer taking his first win
for the 2011 season by less than half a second
over second place Jeffrey Rastrelli. Series points
leader Casey Martin managed to finish the race
in fifth position getting edged out by Mark Madl
taking fourth for the moto. Kyle Fix finished
third for Moto 1 after giving up a few spots and
doing his best to carry points into the second
moto.

Kyle
Fix pulled Moto 1 Holeshot aboard his KTM
450SX ATV |
In Moto 2, series points leader Casey Martin
took the holeshot, shut the door and checked out
for an impressive wire to wire win, and expanded
the gap between him and second place in the season
standings for the overall points lead. Little
did he know that three turns into the second moto
there was a three rider pile up that took out
Kyle Fix and Mark Madl and slowed the rest of
the field while he kept charging for the win.

In
Moto 2 Casey Martin shot off the line and
claimed the holeshot with his Moto-Xperts
/ Dragon Racing Fuels powered Honda TRX450R
ATV |
Only a few laps later Rastrelli ran into issues
and slowed to a rolling speed that took himself
out of a podium finish for the day. During this
chaos Aaron Meyer worked his way into the number
two spot and held on for the duration of the race
securing himself an overall win for the day, and
his first overall win for his 2011 season.

Moto 2 Kyle Fix & Mark Madl collided
extending the lead to Moto-Xperts Rider
& Pro-Am Class Points Leader Casey Martin |
Ronnie Higgerson who also races the in the Pro
class is exercising his right to run Pro-Am while
he is out of the top ten in points, had a nice
third place finish to cap off his ride atop his
Suzuki. Madl, who was nearly a lap down after
his third turn pile up, managed to shake out the
cob webs, turn it up a notch and pass nearly the
entire field to finish a very respectable fourth
place just missing a podium position.
