Mechanicsville,
MD (4/16/2011) –
The first mud race of the season was full of surprises
at Budds Creek, but it was no match for the “Ironman”
John Natalie, as he grabbed both moto holeshots
and took two moto wins for the top spot on the podium
Walsh Race Craft’s Jeremy Lawson took the
second spot, while Janssen’s Nick DeNoble
claimed his first-ever Pro ATV podium finish in
third at round number four of the 2011 AMA ATV Motocross
Championships.
The weather was good for the first pro practice,
but the rain moved in before the start of the
second practice and drenched the track, causing
slick, muddy conditions, so most of the pro opted
out of any practice in the mud and prepped their
quads for a muddy moto one. The rain let up just
before the start of the first moto, but the slick
conditions remained and a threat of thunderstorms
loomed in the forecast.

#13 John Natalie grabbed the Moto One Holeshot
with Baldwin's #20 Josh Upperman in chase |
Can-Am/Motoworks’ John Natalie grabbed the
moto one holeshot and checked out. Natalie pulled
a good lead, but later in the moto, he would battle
with Josh Upperman, who showed him a wheel a couple
of times, but Natalie would not back down and kept
his lead all the way to the checkered flag for the
moto one win.

Can-Am's
John Natalie held the lead from start to
finish, but #20 Josh Upperman closed the
gap several times, but was unable to make
a move on Natalie before the checkered flag
with Natalie taking the win by a slim margin
of just over 2 seconds

“If I could pick one race to get a holeshot,
this one was it. The track was brutal and I was
really glad to be out front. I’m hoping
for a good start in moto two as well because in
these conditions it really makes a difference.”

lead over #44 Chad Wienen |
Moto two was a repeat for Natalie as he again
grabbed the holeshot and began to pull away. Natalie
led from start to finish and took the moto two
win by over 20 seconds. Natalie’s win also
puts him into the pro points lead.
“We figured out the tire combo we were
going to use and we got it dialed in for moto
two. Getting the holeshot really made a difference
this time and everything just went really great
for me. Can-Am has stuck by me and given me everything
I need and I think we have a good chance of winning
a championship this year,” said Natalie.
