Review of Pro-Fab ATV's Billet Products for the Honda 400EX
written by ATVRiders Staff

ProFab billet products

Pro-Fab recently sent us their full line of Billet products for our upcoming Project 400ex. Pro Fab is also going to be doing all the engine work on our Project! As the project is taking longer to take form we have decided to release this review ahead of time. All of Pro-Fab's products are manufactured in the U.S.A. which is an added bonus! These products are top notch, and all receive our best rating - 5 out of 5 stars!

Footpegs: Some of the most dangerous ATV accidents occur as a result of a rider's feet slipping off the footpegs. Pro Fab's new stainless steel footpegs give a rider a significantly larger surface to stand on, with three rungs of teeth opposed to the normal two rungs - increasing rider control and safety. Pro Fab's footpegs utilize a kick-up style of design which pretty much guarantees that you will not lose your footing even in the most technical and off-camber terrain. The teeth on the footpegs are heavy-duty and sharp. In this author's opinion it would be extremely hard, if not impossible to lose traction while using these pegs. Due to their stainless-steel construction you are not going to have to worry about replacing these pegs because of worn down teeth, like you would with aluminum models, for a very long time.

What more can I say about these footpegs? They are absolutely the best looking and most functional footpegs I have ever seen on the market. They are heavy-duty stainless steel, but not too heavy. They are laser cut and tig-welded with precision. The cleats are sharp and provide excellent foot traction and rider stability. These are a must have for any ATV rider, trail rider and racer alike, who wants a great looking, much safer than stock, and long-lasting set of footpegs for their ATV.

ProFab seat latch

Heavy-Duty Seat Latch: 400ex's are notorious for losing their seats during races and on the trails as well. The stock seat latch design is just not able to handle the stresses put on it by a lot of riders. If you have ever lost your seat while riding you know it is a very dangerous predicament to be in. In such a circumstance a rider will often wreck, not to mention ruining a racer's chance at winning or even finishing a race. Pro-Fab's trick new heavy duty seat latch is a necessity for any racer, and is highly recommended for trail riders as well. It utilizes a machined aluminum dual lynchpin system which is highly functional, reliable, and durable. Once you install this system your mind can be at ease knowing that your seat is going to stay put no matter what type of terrain or race you throw at your quad. This system also looks great, even though it isn't it plain view. Pro-Fab's heavy-duty aluminum seat latch is another must have for your 400ex - it is highly recommended for all riders because of the extra safety it will afford you, not to mention its inexpensive cost! For the price you just can't buy another piece of safety equipment that will protect you more than this system.

Heavy-Duty Stainless Steel Swingarm Skidplate: The 400ex's stock swingarm skidplate is a real joke among owners. It is extremely flimsy and offers little to no protection in moderate to rough terrain, and forget about it in a race! There are many companies out there that manufacture aftermarket aluminum swingarm skidplates for the 400ex but aluminum is not as strong or durable as stainless steel. Sure the aluminum skidplates are a bit lighter than Pro-Fab's stainless steel model, but for real racers (especially XC racers) and quad owners who ride in rocky terrain, stainless steel is the way to go because it is hands down the strongest and most protective skidplate material on the market. Sure Pro-Fab's stainless steel swingarm skidplate weighs a little more than its aluminum counterparts, and yes it costs somewhat more than they do as well, but the protection Pro-Fab's model offers racers and riders is second to none. A lot of guys might be thinking right now, "I want to shave every possible pound off my quad," or "The little bit more that Pro-Fab's model will cost me could be better spent on a fast food dinner." To those people I say you are being extremely shortsighted because this model will save your expensive rear end components time after time in situations that would destroy an aluminum skidplate. I have seen aluminum swingarm skidplates, including many models made by popular national ATV fabrication companies, crack on the trails and crack in races, often destroying a swingarm, sprocket, chain, bearing carrier, etc. Pro-Fab's stainless skidplate will protect your quad's rear end no matter what you hit. Sure your quad might weigh a few measily pounds more - but give me a break, if you are so concerned about that miniscule amount of extra weight go on a diet and lose a couple pounds yourself. This model will not let you down, it won't let a hidden rock ruin your fun trail ride and it will not allow tough XC race conditions to take your quad out of the running. Simply put, Pro-Fab's stainless steel swingarm skidplate is going to protect your quad day in and day out for as long as you own your quad. For our money this is the swingarm skidplate for all of our quads - trail ridden and raced alike. Pro-Fab has a real winner here. It is constructed out of heavy-duty stainless steel and is tig-welded. The welds are precise and are top-of-the-line. Spend the extra dollars and buy this product - it will be the last skidplate you will ever have to buy!

ProFab air scoops

Air scoops: Pro-Fab's aluminum air scoops for the 400ex look great and are functional as well. They offer increased air flow to your powerplant which equals greater cooling and performance. Their simple design looks great and should provide to be a very easy install. If you are looking to buy some air-scoops I highly recommend you give Pro-Fab a call!

Conclusion: Pro-Fab ATV has a real winning line of products for your 400ex. All of their products are made in the U.S., all are constructed with the utmost attention to detail and functionality, all look great, all function perfectly, and all give you unmatched protection and performance. We give all of these products our highest rating - 5 out of 5 stars! To order this heavy duty timing chain call Scott at Pro Fab, at 740-654-0734, and tell him EXriders sent you!
