Yokley / Coastal Racing Powerline Park GNCC SxS Race Report
Powerline Park GNCC - Round 11 - St. Clairsville, OH - October 6, 2012

National Guard / Yokley Racing's William Yokley
Coastal Racing / Yokley Racing's William & Tina Yokley placed 6th in the SxS XC2 Modified Class at Powerline Park GNCC
Frankfurt, KY (10/10/2012) - National Guard / Polaris / Coastal / Yoshimura / DragonFire / Yokley Racing Team driver William Yokley finished 6th Overall and 6th in the XC1 Modified Class.  National Guard / Polaris / Coastal / Yoshimura / Yokley Racing Team driver Scott Kiger finished 4th Overall and 4th in XC1 Modified class.  There were 38 total entries including 16 XC1 Modified teams.  William’s guest passenger was his wife Tina, and Scott’s passenger was Buck Brewer.

The conditions for today’s race were just about perfect with temps in the 60s and sunny skies.  Overnight rain gave the track great traction with no dust.  When the green flag dropped, the National Guard Coastal Polaris Team barreled into turn 1 side by side along with William’s nephew John Yokley.  John’s machine caught a rut and proceeded to flip over, leaving William Yokley and Scott Kiger battling for the lead.

William noticed early on that his machine was operating with 2–wheel drive only, with no power going to his front wheel drive system.  This put him to a disadvantage on hills and powering out of turns.  Meanwhile, Scott Kiger passed William and was battling for the lead when he ran into his own issues with his suspension and brakes.  Both machines soldiered on running in the top several positions.

On the last lap only a short distance from the finish, a backmarker had a problem with his machine, and totally blocked the track.  Kiger, Yokley and all the other front runners had to stop and wait for the track to get cleared.  After several minutes, the group continued on, but because of the delay, the rest of the field was able to close right up on them.  This put the teams that started behind them actually ahead of them on adjusted time at the finish.

The team had a good day even with the various issues and situations.  Scott Kiger is leading the series points and William Yokley is 2nd with only one race to go in the season.  They will try to put their machines on the podium at the Ironman in Crawfordsville Indiana on October 20 and finish the season strong.  We’ll see you there!
