Chad Wienen wrapped up his second consecutive championship at Red Bud MX. Teammate Thomas Brown earned second at ATV Motocross Round 9

Buchanan, MI (7/29/2013) - Aboard his Wienen Motorsports YFZ450R, Chad Wienen clinched his second consecutive AMA Pro ATV Motocross championship by winning both motos at RedBud MX in Buchanan, Mich. on Saturday, July 27. By taking eight overall wins in nine events so far this year, the Yamaha rider secured the title with one round remaining in the series, and thus heads into the finale at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Tennessee on Aug. 10 still in possession of the coveted number-one plate. Meanwhile teammate Thomas Brown also had a terrific weekend in southern Michigan, charging to 2-2 moto finishes for second place overall – his best finish this year. He is currently second in points to Wienen as the series heads into the final weekend.

Just as he has all season long, Wienen made winning look easy in the first of two 12-lap motos on one of nation’s most revered outdoor tracks. He powered his YFZ to the holeshot, built up a gap of over four seconds on the very first lap, and then held the advantage all the way to the checkers. However the race proved tougher for teammate Brown, who started only inside top 10. As usual though, Brown charged immediately, fighting his way up to fifth by the end of lap one and advancing to fourth on lap two. He then trailed rivals Josh Creamer and Joel Hetrick for most of the race before passing both of them with just two laps remaining, making it a 1-2 Yamaha finish.

Rival Joe Byrd took the holeshot in moto two, but Wienen was right behind and the Yamaha rider grabbed the lead after just a few corners. From there on, it was Wienen’s race as he extended his lead to win by nearly seven seconds. For his part, Brown enjoyed a better start in second this time, then swapped the position with rival Byrd early on before reclaiming second to finish behind Wienen once again. Brown now has a 22-point advantage over Creamer with only the Loretta Lynn’s event left to go.

“This season has been surreal and now that I’ve clinched my second consecutive national championship it’s more than a dream come true,” Wienen said. “I’ve been working my entire life to win a championship and now that I’ve done it two years in a row, it makes me even hungrier for more.”
