Wienen Motorsports / Yamaha's Chad Wienen & Thomas Brown went 1-3 at Birch Creek MX in Danville, VA

Danville, VA (6/11/2013) - Yamaha YZF450R-mounted Chad Wienen scored his fourth consecutive overall win with 1-3 moto finishes at the sixth round of the 2013 AMA Pro ATV championship in Danville, Va. on Saturday, June 8. The win further extends is points lead in the series with four rounds left to go. And more good news for Yamaha ATV fans, teammate Thomas Brown scored well-earned 2-4 moto finishes in tough, muddy conditions that resulted from a late-spring rainstorms in the area. Although Brown just missed getting on the box in moto two, his effort was still good for his fifth overall podium this year. Brown now rides a solid second in points behind Wienen. The series next heads to Delmont, Pa. over the long Fourth of July weekend.

Rain and mud always introduce an unpredictable element to racing, but Wienen played it almost perfectly in the first moto. He followed rival Joe Byrd into the first turn, passed for the lead on the second lap, and then enjoyed a clear – albeit muddy – track at the front of the field from there on, with Brown fighting hard to charge from eighth to second, a heroic achievement under the conditions. In moto two, Wienen got away in third behind rivals John Natalie and Josh Upperman – but this time the trio was locked into line for the entire moto, with Wienen settling for third to secure the overall win. Brown started strongly in fourth, but ultimately couldn’t make any progress on the riders ahead.

“I’m just really glad we have our mud setup dialed in and our machines working really well,” said a muddy Wienen after the race. “You never know what is going to happen in a mud race, but I’m always thrilled to come out of a weekend that can go any which way on the box and still holding onto the red plate.” Yamaha ATV racing coordinator Donnie Luce added, "Chad took another major step toward earning his second AMA Pro ATV championship with his fifth win of the season. He is clearly leading by example, as Wienen Motorsports Yamaha riders are now 1-2 in the series.”
