Yamaha's Dustin Nelson went 2-2 to take second overall at the Yamaha Quad-X Season Finale. Nelson finished second in the Quad-X Series Championship

Cypress, CA (11/12/2012) -Yamaha motorcycles and ATVs raced to podium finishes in everything from MotoGP to Supercross in Europe, and from motocross to off-road in America over the Nov. 9-11 weekend.

Heading the results was Yamaha Factory Racing test rider Katsuyuki Nakasuga, replacing an injured Ben Spies, who scored a tremendous second place during a damp season-ending Grand Prix of Valencia in Spain. While in France, JGR's Justin Brayton and his YZ450F finished third overall in the annual Bercy Supercross in Paris with 3-3-3 motos during three nights of competition. Then at Glen Helen Raceway in California, Dustin Nelson put in 2-2 moto finishes aboard his YFZ450R to wind up the Yamaha Quad-X season second in Pro 450 Production, tied in points with rival Davi Haagsma. And finally, Am-Pro Yamaha's Paul Whibley won the OMA Nationals finale in Tennessee aboard his YZ450F, making it nine wins out of 10 events this season for the 2012 series champ.

After clinching the 2012 MotoGP world championship two weeks ago in Australia, Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo went into the final round in Valencia, Spain full of confidence and with much of the pressure off. He qualified his YZR-M1 second fastest on Saturday, then in the race jumped into the lead on the fourth of 30 laps. Unfortunately on the 13th lap, Lorenzo encountered damp pavement while lapping another rider, spectacularly high-siding out of the race. With Lorenzo's departure, Nakasuga kept his YZR-M1 upright in the tricky conditions and blazed to a remarkable second-place finish, surprising the entire MotoGP community with an extraordinary achievement. Monster Yamaha Tech 3's Andrea Dovizioso finished sixth while teammate Cal Crutchlow also crashed on damp pavement while running second.

"I'm so very happy with this result, as the conditions were very difficult today," Nakasuga said of his historic finish. "It was a tough race but the team was amazing and I have to thank them for making the best choice for my set up for the race. It is like a dream or a miracle for me to be on the podium. I want to thank Yamaha for giving me this special opportunity to race here in MotoGP – it has been amazing." In the final 2012 MotoGP standings, Lorenzo won the championship for Yamaha, with Dovizioso in fourth, Crutchlow in seventh and Spies in 10th after missing the last two races due to injury. Yamaha finished second in the manufacturers standings, while Yamaha Factory Racing and Monster Yamaha Tech 3 finished second and third, respectively, in the team standings.
