Wienen placed second at AMA ATV MX Round
6 aboard his Yamaha YFZ450R Sport ATV |
Cypress, CA (6/19/2012) - Yamaha
ATVs and off-road bikes raced to two overall podiums
and five more top-10 finishes in events from Pennsylvania
to Maryland, and from Utah to Wyoming over the
June 16-17 weekend. Headlining the action were
Chad Wienen and Thomas Brown in AMA Pro ATV competition
in Mt. Morris, Penn. on Saturday, with Wienen
winning one moto and taking second overall, and
Brown taking third overall, aboard their YFZ450Rs.
While in WORCS ATV competition in Central, Utah
on Sunday, Josh Row and Dustin Nelson both grabbed
top-10 finishes, with Row in sixth and Nelson
10th aboard their own YFZs. On the bike side,
JGR’s Davi Millsaps took eighth, with Star
Valli Yamaha’s Ryan Sipes in 10th, aboard
their YZ450Fs in the fifth round of the 2012 AMA
Motocross series in Mechanicsville, Md. on Saturday.
The AMA Pro ATV event in Pennsylvania featured
two grueling 13-lap motos – and an especially
exciting first race. When the gate dropped,
a ferocious three-way battle between Yamaha’s
Brown and rivals Joel Hetrick and John Natalie
immediately developed, with Wienen lurking several
seconds back. When Hetrick faltered after a
few laps, Natalie and Brown ran wheel to wheel
for nearly the entire moto as Wienen slowly
closed in. At the flag, Brown was just 2.2 sec.
behind Natalie with Wienen another 2.5 sec.
back after an amazing drive toward the front.
The second moto was all Wienen’s. He started
in the top three and worked his way into the
lead on the fifth lap, running away with the
race to score 3-1 moto finishes for the day.
Brown added another fine finish to end the day
with solid 2-3 moto results.
