Yamaha's
2011 QuadX Champion Dustin Nelson took
second at WORCS Round 7 at Glen Helen
Raceway |
Cypress, CA (9/19/2011) -Fresh
from claiming the 2011 Yamaha Quad-X championship
in Arizona last weekend, Nelson was dialed in
and ready to tackle Sunday's long WORCS race at
Glen Helen. But at the start his normal holeshot
didn't quite materialize, and Nelson started only
in the top six.
In the early part of the over 1 ½-hour
race, he circulated nearly a half-minute behind
the
leaders, settling in and biding his time. At
the halfway point Nelson got
the opportunity he wanted when a lapper got
stuck on a hill-climb, blocking
the trail for the pros and tightening up the
field. That was all the edge
Nelson needed, and he passed rider after rider
to work his way into second
place, less than 15 sec. behind eventual winner
Beau Baron. It was a great
achievement considering the beating Nelson had
taken crashing on a rocky
downhill section during Saturday's qualifying.
"Champions always find a way
to win, and although Dustin didn't quite take
it this time, even with a
hurt arm he sure maximized his performance,"
