Cypress, CA (10/10/2011)
- Fresh from earning their respective 2011 GNCC
XC2 Pro Am and Women's championships, Walker Fowler
and Traci Cecco scored another pair of wins at
the 11th round of the series in St. Clairsville,
Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 8. Riding a Ballance Racing
YFZ450X, Fowler won his 11th straight XC2 Pro
Am race - a new record for the series - and is
now just two victories from his goal of a perfect
season. He also finished fourth overall against
the premier XC1 Pro field starting ahead of him.
For her part, Yamaha's Cecco took her sixthWomen's
class win of the year on another YFZ450X, adding
luster to her eighth series championship. In XC1
Pro action, Taylor Kiser finished just off the
podium in fourth.
In the Women's morning ATV race, Cecco charged
from the drop of the flag to build up a gap
of nearly eight seconds over fellow Yamaha pilot
Kristen Atwell on the first of four long laps.
Kristen soon dropped two positions to fourth,
allowing rivals Angel Atwell and Lexie Coulter
to pursue the fleeing Cecco. However they were
unsuccessful as Cecco built up a full minute's
lead by the halfway point. Behind her a royal
battle raged between Kristen Atwell and her
two rivals, with the trio separated by only
four seconds at the halfway point. Ultimately,
Cecco and her YFZ cruised to a nearly 30- second
win as a resurgent Kristen found the speed to
retake third place, giving Yamaha 1-3 podium
finishes.
The combined XC1 Pro and XC2 Pro Am afternoon
race proved another thrilling display of speed
and control for Fowler. He not only set the
quickest lap time of the XC2 Pro Am field at
25 min. 27 sec., but he was also the fastest
XC2 rider on each of the five long laps. Even
more impressive, Fowler amassed a lead of over
six minutes - an average gain of 1 min. 15 sec.
per lap over the second-place rider. Fortunately,
by the finish that rider was YFZ450X-mounted
Gabe Phillips, who rallied from a first-turn
crash to give Yamaha a 1-2 XC Pro Am sweep.
"Today Walker and Traci proved why they
are champions," said Yamaha ATV racing
coordinator Donnie Luce. "Even after winning
titles, they are still giving it 100 percent
and bringing home more wins." The next
race on Fowler's perfect-season target is in
Crawfordsville, Ind. on Oct. 22.
