Yamaha's
Walker Fowler is on his way to a perfect
season aboard his Yamaha YFZ450X ATV with
8-8 wins |
Cypress, CA (7/11/2011) -
Blue-and-white Yamaha ATVs and motocrossers
scored an impressive seven wins and two podiums
in GNCC ATV, GNCC motorcycle and QuadX ATV competition
over the July 9-10 weekend. On the ATV side,
in Millfield, Ohio on Saturday, Traci Cecco
and Walker Fowler scored GNCC wins in their
respective Women’s and XC2 Pro Am classes,
further padding their points leads, as Taylor
Kiser grabbed a second in XC1 Pro. While in
Yamaha QuadX competition at Glen Helen Raceway
in California, Dustin Nelson won three out of
four motos over the two-day program to continue
his perfect record of overall wins this season.
Cecco’s fourth consecutive win in Saturday
morning’s GNCC Women’s ATV event
gives the seven-time champion five wins in eight
races so far this year. It was an especially
satisfying one, because the likeable Cecco got
her YFZ450 stuck on a log early in the four-lap
event and had to charge hard to put herself
in a position to win. She did so dramatically
too, by using a ravine to pass Yamaha-mounted
Kristen Atwell for the lead on the final lap.
Then in his afternoon XC2 Pro Am race, Fowler
was again simply unapproachable on his own YFZ450.
He led every one of five laps and crossed the
line more than six minutes ahead of second-place
Eric Hoyland.
Over in San Bernardino, Calif., the QuadX competition
heated up right along with the summer weather.
Nelson spun his YFZ450R’s rear tires coming
across the gate in Saturday’s moto one
and rounded the first turn in only 10th. But
he alone had figured out how to do a massive
triple jump, a move that gained him three seconds
a lap over the field. So fast was the defending
series champ that he moved into second by the
halfway point and then caught the race leader,
rival Beau Baron, with two laps remaining. But
there was simply no way around, and Nelson had
to settle for his first runner-up moto finish
of the year. Yet he made up for it in the three
remaining motos, winning each one and forging
even further ahead in points. “The pulling
power of the YFZ motor on the long start straight
definitely earned me two out of four holeshots
this weekend,” he noted. Yamaha racing
coordinator Donnie Luce added, “This was
truly a monumental weekend for our ATV and off-road
racing teams.”
