Yamaha's
Walker Fowler took home his second consecutive
win for the 2011 GNCC racing season
in the XC2 Pro-AM ATV Class
|
Cypress, CA (3/14/2011) -
The 2011 GNCC ATV season is shaping up as a
strong one for Ballance Racing's Walker Fowler,
who rode his YFZ450X to his second consecutive
win in the competitive XC2 Pro Am class in Washington,
Georgia on Saturday, March 12.
Traci Cecco and Kristen Atwell added to the
hardware haul for Yamaha with dramatic second-
and third-place finishes in the Women's class
on Saturday morning. A podium in the premiere
XC1 Pro class just eluded Taylor Kiser, however,
as he finished fourth, less than a minute off
the pace. Fowler now leads the XC2 Pro Am points,
with Kiser third in XC1 Pro points, and Cecco
third, Atwell fourth and Kara Merritt fifth
in the Women's division.
Yamaha's Cecco and Atwell swapped the lead
for four of five exciting laps
during the grueling two-hour women's event.
It was ATV racing drama at its
best as Atwell led the first lap, Cecco the
second, Atwell the third and
then Cecco again on lap four. Meanwhile though,
rival Angel Atwell was
steadily forging her way up from fourth place,
managing to find a way by
Cecco for a narrow 2.6-second win on the final
lap, with Kristen Atwell
only 1.4 seconds behind Cecco. Altogether, Yamaha
YFZs captured four of the
top six positions.
Fowler's afternoon XC2 Pro Am victory was textbook
perfect. He not only put
his YFZ450X ahead for all five laps, but also
expanded his advantage over
the large field with every additional lap. So
what started as a narrow
3.8-second lead over rival Parker Jones on lap
one turned into a minute
lead on lap two, more than a two-minute advantage
on lap three, and nearly
four minutes on lap four. By the end of five
long laps and nearly two
hours, Fowler had built up a gap of 4 min. 53
sec. - an eternity in highly
competitive GNCC racing.
Making the ATV racing weekend even better for
Yamaha was Dustin Nelson, who claimed a 450
Production class win and a second in Open Production
at the ATV World Motocross Championship Series
in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Congratulations
everyone!
