Winning Weekend
for Yamaha ATVs at GNCC & Quadcross
Dustin Nelson Wins
Again at Yamaha / ITP Quadcross
Cypress, CA (5/10/2010)
- Yamaha off-road motorcycles and ATVs
showed their winning form in a host of important
races over the weekend of May 8-9, 2010. Headlining
the victories were YZ450F-mounted Charlie Mullins
and WR450F-mounted Paul Whibley, who swept the
GNCC XC1 Pro motorcycle class in Yadkinville,
North Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Dustin Nelson
followed up with his second consecutive ITP QuadCross
overall win aboard his YFZ450R in Anza, Calif.,
also on Sunday. While earlier in the weekend,
YFZ450R-mounted Kristen Atwell and YFZ450X-mounted
Traci Cecco likewise swept the Women’s class
in the Saturday morning GNCC ATV race in North
Carolina.
Out west in California, Nelson went into the
ITP QuadCross third round with a narrow lead over
rival Beau Baron. He launched to only a top-five
start in the first of two 20-minute motos, but
was able to claw his way into second by the end
of the first lap. Nelson then made quick work
of early leader Baron with a neat inside pass
on lap three, holding on for a narrow two-second
margin of victory. Moto two was easier. After
a second-place start behind Yamaha-mounted Justin
Noss, Nelson took the lead early and soon forged
an unbeatable advantage. The 1-1 motos gave him
the overall win over Baron, with fellow Yamaha
pilot Jason Fife rounding out the podium. “My
450R has good roll-on power, an important advantage
when the track is slippery,” Nelson explained
