Yamaha's Traci
Cecco Takes First Win at Steele Creek GNCC
Steele Creek GNCC -
Round 3 - Morganton, NC - March 22, 2010
Cypress, CA (3/22/2010)
- Multi-time GNCC ATV Women’s champion
Traci Cecco rode her Yamaha YFZ450X to her first
win of the season in Morganton, NC on Saturday,
March 20. After posting a pair of top-five finishes
in the previous two races, Cecco’s first
win of the year draws her close to the points
lead in the prestigious racing series. Yamaha
YFZ450X racers likewise grabbed podium positions
in the premier XC1 Pro and XC2 Pro Am classes
as Taylor Kiser and Bill Ballance took second
and third, respectfully, in XC1 and Kevin Yoho
finished second in XC2. In all, Yamaha ATVs grabbed
an impressive eight wins and 16 podium finishes
for the day.
On Saturday morning, Cecco started the first
of four grueling off-road laps just how she wanted
to – by taking the lead ahead of rivals
Angel Atwell, Yamaha-mounted Jennifer Albright
and the rest of the women’s pack. Cecco
used her YFZ450X’s blend of power and finesse
in the woods to extend her lead over Atwell to
nearly 22 seconds by the race’s midway point.
But off-road competition is unpredictable, and
Cecco soon enough had to deflect fresh challenges
by rival Lexie Coulter and Yamaha’s Albright,
who would ultimately finish a respective second
and third.
In the long afternoon XC1 Pro race, multi-time
champ Ballance jumped to a narrow early lead,
only to cede the advantage to Yamaha-mounted Kiser
on the second of five laps. Building excitement
for blue-and-white fans, Kiser and Ballance then
ran a strong 1-2 during the middle part of the
two-hour event. Rival Chris Borich eventually
slipped into the lead in the late going, taking
the checkers by a mere 1.1 second over Kiser and
with Ballance less than four seconds adrift. Following
up in XC2 Pro Am, Yoho rode solidly in third place
all afternoon long, eventually climbing a position
on the final lap as early leader and rival Dustin
Canipe faltered. Walker Fowler followed up in
fifth to place two Yamahas in the XC2 Pro Am top
five.
