Yamaha Australian Pro Quad MX Championships Podium
The 2010 Yamaha Australian Pro Quad MX podium was filled by Ryan Lancaster in 1st, Luke Gaisford in 2nd, & Paul Holmes in 3rd place
Cypress, CA (10/21/2010) - The format of 5 x 20 minute +1 lap moto’s over two days is a strenuous ask of anyone, and the field included Mark Watson and Paul Holmes from the UK, representing KTM & Berry Sweet, Jason Jepsen from New Zealand on Yamaha, KTM Australia’s Chris Brenton 2009, Aus Champ back from the US racing in the Pro Am class, Blake Waldmann back from a stint in the US with the Joe Byrd Race Team, KTM Australia’s Ryan Lancaster 2008 Aus Champ, Can-Am X Team’s 2009 Aus#2 Chad McKay, Suzuki Australia’s 2009 Aus #3 Josh Higson, recently crowned WA #1 Luke Gaisford and a host of others including Colin Jefferies, Jordan Dummett, Michael Harcourt, Cameron Wade from Victoria, Mark Allcorn from Northern Territory.

Each race run over approximately 13 laps of the 1.85km(1.2miles) Hard pack course was harsh on all riders and bikes, plenty of rubber left on the track, as 13 different classes competed for all National titles on offer.

Moto 1 saw the second youngest rider on the grid Luke Gaisford on the RPS, MXP TRX 450R take the win in front of UK’s Paul Holmes, while Moto 2 saw Chris Brenton check out and cross the chequers 12 seconds in front of second. Race 3 again saw Brenton out in front and saw a massive dual between Holmes and Lancaster, with lappers coming into play, Holmes getting the advantage for the pass, all top 3 riders finishing within seconds of each other. Moto 4 saw Holmes, Lancaster and Brenton dualing it out, when Brenton came to grief to allow Gaisford through for third.

Moto 5 going into the race, Holmes held a 9 point margin over Brenton, then Gaisford and Lancaster, the 4 riders would have to race it out to the chequers for top honours. Mark Watson who had dnf every race to date, got the lead early and streaked away with Paul Holmes, off the side of the track early with an engine failure.

The two local boys Lancaster and Brenton where fighting it out every lap, Brenton took the lead mid race, Lancaster sitting in 3rd and Gaisford in 4th, with 1 Jump and two corners to go, Brenton’s bike makes a cracking noise and rolls to a stop with 100 metres to the finish line, Lancaster gets past, Gaisford passes, and then Brenton with the crowd urging him to push the bike across the finish, gets the bike over, unfortunately rules state he needed to actually be on the bike and was given a dnf.

The usual celebratory acknowledgements were delayed as the points were all so close, Lancaster, Brenton and Gaisford all within a point of each other, and technical rules needed to be clarified. The end to a fantastic fast and furious Pro 5 race championship, was concluded with fireworks and a sit down dinner under a marquee for over 250 people. A lot of happy faces and disappointed riders sat and pondered the 2 days, toasted the Club on a fantastic event, and brilliant new facilities, putting the Southern Capes Motorcycle Club on the map.
