Yamaha's
Walker Fowler grabs the XC2 Pro-Am ATV
Holeshot & goes on to claim the
Ironman GNCC Win
|
Cypress, CA (10/25/2010) - The
Oct. 23-24 weekend was a great one for the YFZ450
as Yamaha Racing's Dustin Nelson swept the ITP
QuadCross Pro Production and Open Pro classes
in California and Ballance Racing's Walker Fowler
took top honors in the GNCC XC2 Pro Am class in
Indiana. Nelson's sixth Pro Production win of
the year gives him a virtual hammerlock on his
fourth career ITP QuadCross title, while Fowler's
win pulled him into a tie for the GNCC XC2 championship
in the season finale. With 281 points apiece,
the battle
between Fowler and rival Brian Wolf was only decided
in Wolf's favor because he had five wins to Fowler's
four. Also in Indiana, Am Pro Yamaha's Paul Whibley
and Thad Duvall went 1-2 aboard their 2010 YZ450Fs
in the season-ending GNCC XC1 Pro motorcycle race.
Charlie Mullins took second and Whibley finished
third in the championship.
Dustin Nelson arrived at Racetown 395 in Adelanto,
Calif. for the penultimate ITP QuadCross round
with a comfortable 16-point lead in the series.
In the first of two motos, Nelson got to turn
one behind title rival Beau Baron and Yamaha-mounted
Justin Noss, but he soon worked his way into
the lead and eventually won by five seconds
over Baron. "Moto two was my kind of race
- I holeshotted and left," Nelson said
later.
It was true - the defending series champion
powered his YFZ450R to the front immediately
and then simply checked out, taking the win
over Baron by an amazing 12 seconds. "My
bike has very consistent handling without any
negative reactions to sliding or catching holes,"
Nelson reported. "It also had great hookup
and acceleration out of the corners."
Walker Fowler likewise put in a textbook GNCC
performance in the XC2 Pro Am race in Crawfordsville,
Indiana. Like Nelson, he grabbed the holeshot
on
his YFZ450X and then rode to a commanding win
- exactly what he needed to
do for a shot at the title. Fowler executed
his strategy perfectly over five long laps and
nearly 2 ½ hours of competition. After
taking the lead, he built up a 27-second lead
on lap one, expanded that to nearly a minute
on lap two, 1 min. 40 sec. by lap three, and
then over four minutes by the finish.
"Winning at the pro level in ATV motocross
and off-road on the same weekend really proves
the versatility of the YFZ450 package."
said Donnie Luce, Yamaha's ATV racing coordinator.
