Cypress, CA (4/19/2010) -
Top Yamaha off-road racers enjoyed a winning
weekend in several ATV and motorcycle events
on Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18.
In Saturday's four-wheel competition, Taylor
Kiser won the season-opening OMA round in Kentucky
while Johnny Gallagher took the AWRCS regional
ATV race in Pennsylvania. Sunday's motorcycle
results were equally impressive for Yamaha,
as Charlie Mullins commanded the AMA National
Enduro in Tennessee, Thad Duvall took the OMA
motorcycle win in Kentucky, and Barry Hawk mastered
the AWRCS regional bike event, again in Pennsylvania.
The results gave Yamaha ATVs and motorcycles
victory in both OMA and AWRCS premier classes.
In Saturday's ATV events, Kiser started the
blue-and-white streak by dominating the inaugural
2010 OMA series race, blasting to a winning
margin of over six minutes by using the power
and handling of his Ballance Racing YFZ450X
to advantage over the mountainous Kentucky course.
While up in the Keystone State, Gallagher likewise
bested the field in the AWRCS contest, only
this time on a YFZ450R model.
Yamaha bike racers took to the trails on Sunday.
Mullins grabbed his third AMA National Enduro
win of the year on his Obermeyer Am Pro YZ450F,
closing
to within four points of the championship lead.
Meanwhile GNCC star Hawk was up in Pennsylvania
at the AWRCS regional event, showing the field
the way home on his Am Pro WR450F - by a remarkable
six minutes! And last but by no means least,
young Thad Duvall took his first career OMA
win in Kentucky, likewise on an Am Pro WR450F.
After pushbutton-starting his WR at the dead-engine
start, Duvall took the lead on the first lap,
maintained it during the mid-race fuel stop,
and then stretched out a three-minute lead by
the finish.
"The WR is really good for woods riding,"
Duvall commented afterwards. "It has tons
of power and handling with plenty of flywheel,
so you can lug it whenever you want." Yamaha
off-road coordinator Donnie Luce added, "This
weekend all the off-road guys did a great job
of dominating their classes."
