White Bear Lake, MN (10/2/2006) -
Defending SuperQuad Pro 450 Manufacturers’
Champion Suzuki will return to the WPSA PowerSports
ATV Tour in 2007. The American Suzuki Motor
Corp. factory team will be led by 2006 Riders’
Champion Doug Gust and Championship runner-up
Dustin Wimmer. Both riders will race under the
Team Suzuki Yoshimura banner. Suzuki will also
continue its relationship with the Tour in a
sponsorship capacity.
“We’re pleased to again partner with
American Suzuki on the PowerSports ATV Tour,”
said PowerSports Entertainment, Inc. CEO Rick Murphy.
“Suzuki proved itself an extremely valuable
partner in 2006, and we’re excited that partnership
will continue."
“Suzuki’s long history of excellence
was exemplified in 2006 with its dominant run in WPSA
competition,” said Scott O’Malley, PowerSports
Entertainment, Inc. president. “This is truly
an exciting announcement.”
Suzuki had a banner year in 2006 with its quads winning
six of 10 races. Gust outgunned new teammate Wimmer
at the season finale to net the inaugural Riders’
Championship by just two points. Gust won three races
in 2006, and finished on the podium an additional
five times. Wimmer, who rode for a privateer team
in 2006, earned two victories, including his first
in professional competition, and finished on the podium
seven times.
“The PowerSports ATV Tour delivered on its
promises in 2006, making it easy for us to decide
to bring American Suzuki back to the Tour next season,”
said American Suzuki ATV Operations Manager Rod Lopusnak.
“We were pleased with our success on track,
but more so, we’re excited to be a part of WPSA’s
success. This is truly the future of ATV racing in
North America.”
American Suzuki rider Jeremiah Jones, who was injured
in a non-affiliated race last season, will return
to Team Suzuki Yoshimura in 2007 as Team Coordinator.
Prior to his injury, Jones only missed the podium
once in his seven starts in WPSA competition, and
he won three races.
