White Bear Lake, MN (5/12/2006)
- The schedule of events for the ITP
Daniel Boone ATV Championship has been released
and can be downloaded at www.powersportstour.com.
The event, which is the season opener for the
PSA
PowerSports ATV Championship Tour, is scheduled for
May 20-21 at Daniel
Boone MX in London, Ky.
The double championship race weekend features full
cards of ATV competition on both Saturday and Sunday
for the Tour's top Pro Classes: SuperQuad Pro 450
in QuadMX, and QuadTerrain Pro Stock in QuadTerrain
Challenge. Pro finals are scheduled for both days
at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Professional riders wishing
to compete in just the Sunday event can register for
just that race and registration hours have been extended
to Sunday morning, from 6 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. to
serve those riders. Pre-registration is open now and
forms can be downloaded at www.powersportstour.com.
Pro Am, Amateurs and Youth Classes will run qualifying
on Saturday, with finals scheduled for Sunday. A practice
session is scheduled from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. on
Friday, May 19.
"This schedule represents the best of both worlds
for all of our riders," said PowerSports ATV
Championship Tour Director Tes Sewell. "All of
our racers will be the stars of the show, with the
Pros running full races on Saturday and Sunday, while
the Pro Am, Amateur and Youth riders will have the
opportunity to have plenty of track time in front
of a large audience.
"We're tremendously pleased with the feedback
we've received from the ATV community thus far,"
added Sewell. "We think this schedule goes a
long way toward our delivering on the promise of being
North America's premier ATV
racing series."
The Tour will run a heat-final race format, representing
a departure from the system that has traditionally
been used in ATV racing.
"We wanted to be able to showcase the best of
the best in ATV racing to our fans—at the track
and on television—while keeping the competition
strong," said PowerSports Entertainment CEO Rick
Murphy. "We have run a similar race format for
years in the PowerSports Snowmobile Tour with quite
a bit of success. We think it will work perfectly
on the ATV side, making for exciting racing in every
class."
The double championship weekend will feature both
of the Tour's racing series: the "QuadMX Series"
and the "QuadTerrain Challenge." QuadMX
consists of professional and pro-am sport MX racing
on pro-style, big-air MX tracks. The QuadTerrain Challenge
comprises professional and pro-am sport utility racing
on purpose-built all-terrain racing courses.
The Tour recently released its 2006 rulebook and
supplementary regulations, as well as its purse structure.
Among the many changes in the rulebook are the addition
of Manufacturers' and Rookie of Year Championships
in the Tour's Pro classes. The Tour will also award
a Riders' Championship in all of its classes. The
$22,500 purse will pay to 20th place in the Pro classes
in QuadMX and to 15th place in QuadTerrain Challenge
Pro classes.
