Conditions weren't ideal but that seems to be the trend of the 2013 season but even so Wienen was able to come out of the first turn in second. Brown had second gate pick but due to conditions had to settle coming out of the first turn just outside the top ten.

Wienen went on to take over the lead by the second lap and create a seven second gap on the rest of the field by the time he crossed the finish line and took the moto 1 win. Brown had a lot of work ahead of him to make his way up to the front of the field but put his head down and never looked back making his way up to fifth by the halfway point. Brown then continued to push forward and was able to make a pass into second with three laps to go.
