#1 Chad Wienen earned his third consecutive win at Sunset Ridge MX |
Galena, IL (5/28/2013) - Wienen Motorsports SSi Walsh Yamaha presented by Maxxis Tires & Team Vollmer's Chad Wienen grabbed his third consecutive overall victory this past weekend at Sunset Ridge MX in Walnut, IL. Thomas Brown took fourth overall for the weekend and secured second overall in the championship points chase.
The Wienen Motorsports duo started the morning off battling back and forth for the fastest qualifier position. Wienen claimed the fastest qualifier of the morning.
As the first gate dropped, Wienen found himself just inside the top five and Brown was in the top ten. Wienen was able to move into the second place position within a few laps and then put a charge on the rider in first. Before the halfway point, Wienen was able to take over the lead making a pass after a large roller section. Wienen continued on to take the checkers with a comfortable lead on the field. Meanwhile, Brown made his way up to the fifth place position and partook in a three-way battle for the third place position. Brown was able to make the pass into fourth and continued to battle one of the series' most veteran riders for third. With a few laps to go, Brown was able to finally make a clean pass for third and took the position to the finish line.
"I didn't have quite the weekend I was hoping for but I'm looking forward to coming back in two weeks and reclaiming a podium finish," said Brown.

Rain started to come down before moto 2's gate dropped and the Pros hit the field with wet and muddy conditions. Off the line, Wienen missed a gear and came out of the first turn barely inside the top ten. Brown also started out moto 2 toward the back of the field. The duo may have had a bad start but Wienen was up to third by the end of the first lap and Brown sat in sixth. Wienen moved into second and attempted to make a pass for the lead but spun out on the wet track. Wienen only lost a position and was unable to move out of the third place position by the end of the moto. Wienen went 1-3 for the overall win at Round 5. Brown was in the third place position by the end of the second lap. After losing a position Brown sat in fourth and was unable to make a pass back into third. Brown missed his first podium of the 2013 season but came out of the weekend with fourth overall.
"The team had another great weekend. I can't thank our fans and sponsors enough for helping our team claim another overall. Despite the weather of moto 2, Sunset Ridge had the track in great racing condition. I'm excited for getting another overall and extending the points lead and am really looking forward to extending it even further in the second half of the season," said Wienen.
The Wienen Motorsports team now sits first and second in the championship points chase and look to keep at the top of the field at Round 6 June 8 at Birch Creek MX in Danville, VA.
