Galena, IL (3/26/2013) - Even in the mud the Wienen Motorsports SSi Walsh Yamaha presented by Maxxis Tires & Team Vollmer team made a strong statement at the 2013 Mtn. Dew ATV MX Pro National Championship series opener this weekend at Aonia Pass in Washington, Ga. 2012 Pro National Champion Chad Wienen claimed the overall win with a 3-2 finish and Wienen Motorsports new pro rider, Thomas Brown claimed third place after finishing 2-4.

After top five qualifier positions, Wienen and Brown were able to come out of the first turn both in the top five. Brown was able to grab the lead early on but found himself in second place by the end of the first lap. After attempting to put a charge on the first place position, Brown was unable to make a pass and found a comfortable position in second place for the remainder of the moto.

Meanwhile, Wienen made his way into the fourth place position and put a charge on to claim the third place spot. After making the pass into third Wienen was unable to close the gap between him and Brown and rode a smooth and comfortable race to the checkers.

"We have a great set up on our machine and even in conditions that weren't ideal, we were able to pull ourselves to the front of the pack. I am very excited about the results of Round 1. I feel really comfortable on the machine and know we have the best products underneath me to help us get to the podium each weekend," said Brown.

When time came for moto two the track conditions were a little more dry than moto one and Wienen and Brown were able to grab another top five holeshot. Wienen came out of the first turn in the fourth position and was able to make a pass into third by the end of the fourth lap. The reigning champion then set his sights on Josh Upperman for the second place position. Riding smooth, Wienen was able to make the pass by the halfway point in the moto but was unable to close the gap between himself and the first place position before the checkers flew.

Brown came out of the first turn in the fifth place position and was able to move up into fourth on the last lap of the moto.

"In a mud race anything is possible and I am very happy being able to leave round one with the overall win but most importantly with the series points lead. I can't thank our sponsors enough, having both riders on the podium at the opening round really shows all of the hard work and efforts that have been put into the Wienen Motorsports SSi Walsh Yamaha presented by Maxxis Tires & Team Vollmer team throughout the off season not only by our riders but our sponsors as well. We wouldn't have been on top of the box without each of them!" said team owner, Chad Wienen.

Wienen Motorsports amateur riders Bryan Vollmer and Jordan Dummett  competed in Production A. Vollmer finished in third place and Dummet claimed sixth, both riders rode in Heat Two.  Dummett also rode in the 16-24 class and finished in second place. Due to the cancellation of Sunday's races only one moto per event was completed and Pro Am did not compete at all.

The 2013 Mtn. Dew ATVMX Pro National Championship heads to Muddy Creek MX in Blountville, TN Saturday April 13 for Round Two.
