Chandler, AZ (2/9/2012) - Afterfinishing
second in points in the SR1 UTV class in 2010, and
winning the SR1 championship in 2011, Corry Weller
and her title sponsor, The Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery,
are forging into new and exciting territory for
2012. Weller will be the first female racer to compete
in a Pro truck class in the Lucas Oil Off Road Race
Series (LOORRS), and she’s headed straight
into one of the most competitive classes in short
course racing.
“Having the opportunity to race in the
Pro 4 Unlimited class is huge for us and our team.”
says Weller. “Racing in such a high profile
class, we now have the opportunity to offer our
sponsors some serious national exposure and TV
time, which is something we just weren’t
able to offer before in the UTV classes.”
Weller will be campaigning Team Renezeder’s
2009 Championship Pro 4 truck as she races under
the Tilted Kilt banner for the duration of the
2012 season, and is excited about the opportunity
to represent the Tilted Kilt again, as well as
work with one of her favorite teams.
“I have looked up to Team Renezeder for
years now, and have always tried to present myself
and our program with the same level of professionalism
that they always seem to radiate.” Corry
says. “So, when I think about this whole
program and what the Tilted Kilt is doing for
me, I kind of want to pinch myself to be sure
it’s real!” she laughs.
“This is what all of those long nights
and hard work throughout the past few seasons
has been all about,” adds Jason Weller,
Corry’s husband and owner of Weller Racing.
“Our business is still quads and UTVs, but
I’m happy to help Corry pursue such a great
opportunity to make a living doing something she
loves. I know once she gets comfortable in the
truck, she’s going to do great!”
With only two months left until Rounds 1 and
2 at Firebird Raceway, Weller has her work cut
out for her, but she’s ready to get started.
“We don’t have any false expectations
of what this class is about,” she says.
“I know these drivers are very talented
and I have the utmost respect for what it takes
to be competitive in these trucks. This is going
to be a learning year for me. The track is going
to be my classroom, and I plan on soaking up as
much knowledge and experience as I can –
fortunately, I’ve got some great people
to learn from all around me!”
While Weller has raced ATVs and UTVs for years,
she is not a complete stranger to racing trucks.
In 2010 she filled in for SuperLite driver Jason
Ellis for two rounds, garnering a fourth and fifth
place finish for her first two races ever in a
truck. In 2011, Weller raced a Trophy Lite several
times in the Trophy Lite Championship Series for
BBQ Islands’ owner Mike West.
“The biggest change I will have to get
used to is the weight of the truck,” explains
Corry. “My SR1 weighs about 1400 lbs. and
it’s easy to manipulate out on the track
because it’s so light. The Pro 4 is around
4000 lbs., and that’s going to take some
getting used to.” She adds, “Fortunately,
I’ll have plenty of power to work with,
so it will just be a matter of seat time for me
to put it all together.”
