Gillett, WI (9/10/2010) -The 2010 season
has had its challenges for racing in general
for Wisconsin. We came into the year with 7
events on our calendar. It seemed no matter
what, Mother Nature was going to throw a wrench
in the form of rain into our plans as most of
our events would be cancelled, rescheduled,
or cut short. However by the end of the year
we will be able to put 6 events under our belts
with an average around 100 entries at every
round which is a nice improvement of an average
of 70 the previous year. Our last round for
the year will be in Gillett, WI on September
26th.
The core of our racers this year have come
from the youth classes. Our first race we
had at Gillett, WI saw a 20 entry junior class.
It was great to see that many entries in one
class and with it being a youth class helps
to reassure the future of ATV racing. Brian
Kinczfogel would pull out the overall win
followed by Jacob Appleton and Camden Vistain
out of those 20 entries during round #2 of
the series.
Round #4 would take us back to Gillett, WI
again. Turnout was down slightly from the
first time but the track would see some minor
improvements over the first round and again
a decent showing of 12 entries in the junior
class. Brian Kinczfogel would once again stake
his claim to the track and beat out the rest
of the competition in the class, followed
by Jacob Appleton and Dylan Marquardt (see
picture).
Round #5 in Byron, IL would see the same
entry numbers. Jacob Appleton, Evan Clemens,
Devon Borski, and Marcus Misfieldt would see
some new completion this round though with
some local riders from Illinois showing up
and national champion Sam Rowe. Sam Rowe would
be the fastest guy on the track and take the
win for the day. However, there was girl on
the track by the name of Catherine Verbeten
showing the guys what was up and taking 2nd
place and local rider Jeremy Raupp in 3rd.
Jacob Appleton would secure the overall win
in the class for the series with his 4th place
finish on the day giving him a 67 point lead
going into the final round.
The youth classes weren’t the only
ones to provide a consistent turn out for
the series though. The +25 class would provide
solid numbers all year and a welcoming 13
rider field at round #5 in Byron, IL. Local
riders would end up dominating the class on
the day with Neil Hambley, Adam Koehler, and
Shawn Long taking the top spots on the day.
As mentioned there will be a final round in
Gillett, WI on September 26th. We plan on
adding a tag team race and pit bike race between
motos for a little extra fun on the day. We
will also be adding $100 Production A class
and $150 to the Pro-Am Production class for
the day as long as there is a minimum of 4
entries per class.
Over the next two weekends the Gillett Rail
Runners ATV club and the Wisconsin ATV MX
club will be making some more changes and
additions to the track. We are looking forward
to another great race to round out the season.
Shortly after this season wraps up, we will
have our awards banquet and a club meeting
shortly after to plan our 2011 season. Look
for us to return to some of the same tracks
for 2011 and possibly some new ones. Quad
MX racing is alive and well in Wisconsin and
we invite everyone to come out and enjoy the
fun.
