to race the 2012 AMA ATV MX Nationals |
Live Oak, FL (11/8/2011) - The
young talent of Cody Gibson left ATV motocross
almost as quickly as it came. The young man that
had been rumored to be the next ‘Bubba Stewart
of ATV MX’, the same young man that perhaps
will go down in history as the greatest Pro-Am
rider that ATV MX has ever seen. The young man
from Englewood, Tennessee who’s motocross
career came to an early end in 2010…
Well, this young man is Cody Gibson and Walsh
Race Craft is proud to announce the return of
him. Over the past month or so, in the fall of
2011 there has been speculation that CG-40 may
be returning to ATV motocross. But, no one knew
the extent of the rumor until this past weekend.
On Sunday, November 6th at the first round of
the 2011 Sunshine State Quad Series Association
at Sunshine MX, it was confirmed that the comeback
is now. Although Cody has not been on the motocross
in nearly two years, he has not lost any of his
skill and we would like to explain a little bit
about this weekend event; Cody was up against
both 2011 Pro-Am national champions, Jeffery Rastrelli
and Mark Madl. The event was a three moto format,
consisting of two qualifying motos and one main
event.
Cody grabbed the first moto holeshot and was
off to a fine start until he took a tumble in
the whoops section on the first lap, knocking
him out of contention for the first moto. In the
second moto Cody grabbed the holeshot again and
was leaving the pack behind, when on the second
lap he blew a berm and again knocked himself out
of contention. However these first two motos only
mattered for gate pick and since Cody was a bit
rusty we just took these first two motos as ‘getting
settled’, so Cody still had a chance at
the main event overall win.
We were not expecting Cody to beat the two top
competitors that he was facing, we only asked
him to do his best and not crash. So as the gate
dropped, once again it was Cody with the holeshot,
Cody made it around the first few laps maintaining
a comfortable lead and actually opening the lead
over Rastrelli in second place. Near the half-way
point of the race we could see Cody getting very
tired, but his determination and skill, combined
with the battle for second going on behind him
allowed Cody to maintain control of the race.
Cody ended up leading the moto from start to finish,
proving that he is back!
With Walsh Race Craft as his title sponsor, CG-40
will be racing the 2011 SSQSA, the 2012 Dade City
MX Sponsor Cup and the 2012 AMA ATV MX Series.
According to Mike Walsh, “The plan is to
do as many races as we can in Florida during the
winter. Then go to the nationals in the Pro-Am
Production class on an LT-R450 and ride in the
Pro-Am Unlimited class on the Walsh CRF450R. This
will showcase our new machine, as well as allow
Walsh Race Craft and Cody Gibson the opportunity
to repeat capturing both Pro-Am championships
in a single season. CG-40 remains the only rider
to win both championships in a single season when
he won in 2009 aboard a factory backed Walsh Race
Craft/Monster Energy/Kawasaki KFX-450R.
Gibson is very excited about the comeback and
after this weekend he is also very confident.
Cody has always been very inspired and touched
by all of his fans and the support he has received.
Cody is thankful for the opportunity to be back
on the motocross track and would like to imply
his dedication to this 2012 racing effort.
Together Walsh Race Craft and Cody Gibson would
like to say, “While nothing is guaranteed,
we are as confident as anyone can be, that we
will consistently be on the podium from here on
out and that we will support those companies that
support us with the best recognition that we are
capable of.”
Walsh Race Craft and
Cody Gibson would like to thank the following
sponsors second place: Walsh
Race Craft, Fox Racing Shox, Pro Armor, Hinson
Racing, Precision Concepts, DWT, Streamline, K&N,
SSI Decals, Quad Tech, All Balls Racing, FK Bearing
Company, Spider Grips, Vortex and a special thanks
to Scott Ward for the support of Cody’s
return.
