Race Craft's Jeremy Lawson missed the last
podium spot in the second moto with a fourth
place finish |
Live Oak, FL (3/1/2011) - The 2011
race season started on February 26th in Washington,
GA. Featuring a new weekend schedule, the Pro racers
qualified on Saturday morning and raced both motos
on Saturday at 1pm and 4pm. Approaching this first
event of 2011 Jeremy had been training hard and
felt ready to get the season started as he showed
so by setting the third fastest qualifying time.
As the gate dropped on our first moto and the
racers came around the first corner Jeremy was
in ninth place and working hard to gain positions.
It took a few laps to get in the groove and make
the pass for eighth, but he made it happen and
was now looking at a long distance to catch the
lead group. Jeremy was turning the third fastest
lap times on the track (just a couple tenths of
a second off the second fastest time) and made
his way up to the lead group with enough time
to gain a few more positions. By the end of the
race Jeremy had made his way up to fifth place
and was pushing behind Joe Byrd for fourth place,
but had to settle for fifth. During the break
between motos we talked about the race and where
we needed to improve in order to finish the day
on the podium. Our main concern was the holeshot,
we all knew that in order to be where we want
to be, Jeremy must get a good start.

Race Craft's Jeremy Lawson had the third
fastest lap times in both motos |
As the gate dropped on our second moto Jeremy
showed improvement and reacted well off the line
as he pulled through and came around the first
corner in fifth place. We were happy with this
start and were looking forward to running up front
from the beginning of the race, but as they approached
the second corner there was a slight collision
and Jeremy was bumped back to seventh, so yet
again it was time to start passing people. Again,
Jeremy was the third fastest racer on the track,
but this time he made shorter work of a couple
riders in front of him and then, with an awesome
pass on two riders in the same section Jeremy
was into fourth place. Now in fourth place Jeremy
had his sights set on third place Josh Upperman
and Jeremy was gaining, but not fast enough and
as the checkered flag flew we settled for fourth
in the second moto.
