Galena, IL (6/24/2011) - Round
7 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championships was hosted
by Spring Creek Motocross in Millville, Minnesota.
Millville is known for its sandy whoop sections
and they did not disappoint this weekend. The track
was very sandy and rough in some sections yet hard
packed with holes in others. The rough conditions
and heat tested each rider’s fitness. Chad
Wienen continued his streak claiming his 7th consecutive
atvriders.com fastest qualifier award.
Moto one started with Rookie T.O.P. Rider Joel
Hetrick pulling yet another holeshot on his Rage
ATV powered Honda. He was followed by John Natalie,
and T.O.P. riders Josh Upperman, Nick DeNoble
and Chad Wienen. Hetrick capitalized early on
a mistake by Natalie and separated himself momentarily
from the rest of the field. Meanwhile Upperman,
DeNoble and Wienen were in a battle for the third
spot. Wienen would eventually make his way by
the two Hondas. Once in 3rd he made his move on
Hetrick in the whoop section to get into within
striking distance of first place. He was not able
to make the pass for first and settled for a second
place finish in Moto 1. Hetrick finished the moto
in 3rd, Upperman 5th, Thomas Brown 6th and DeNoble
7th.
Wienen felt fresh after Moto 1 and knew that
his preparation would pay off as the temperature
increased in the afternoon. Hetrick pulled another
SSi Decals Holeshot and was under immediate pressure
from Upperman and Wienen. Wienen was able to get
around the Hondas half way through the first lap.
Once in the lead he showed that he was truly fresh
and ready for the moto, riding a comfortable pace
to a 23 second win. Hetrick battled with Natalie
and Brown for much of the moto until a get off
in the whoops ended his hopes of another podium.
Brown held 2nd until half way through the last
lap when Natalie made his move. Upperman rode
a consistent 5th and DeNoble fought for a 7th
in the moto.
Steel City Run Down: T.O.P. trained riders results:
Wienen- Overall Winner (2-1) and fastest qualifier
, Brown – 3rd in 2nd Moto and 4th overall,
Upperman - 5th overall, DeNoble – 6th overall,
Hetrick – 3rd in Moto 1, winner of both
SSi Decal Holeshot awards.
Iowan Jesse Barnes made the trip up to Minnesota
with hopes of landing himself on the podium. He
is still feeling the effects of the injury he
sustained to his hand at round 5 in Illinois.
This was the second time that he was only able
to get one day of seat time between rounds because
of the finger. Again, he proved that consistent
training and hard work can produce great results
on the motocross track. He finished a solid 4th
in Pro Am Unlimited and 5th in Pro Am Production.
Heading into the long layoff from racing Barnes
sits 4th overall in Pro Am Unlimited and 6th in
Pro Am Production.
After taking 3rd at Steel City Bryan Vollmer
was eager to get back to his winning ways at Millville.
Vollmer had zero seat time between round 6 and
7 due to adverse weather conditions in Canada.
He prepared hard for this race with T.O.P. Training
and a few intense games of Bingo now that he is
of legal age for Bingo in Canada. Vollmer raced
to an overall victory in Production B and 8th
in College 16-24. At this point in the season
he currently sits in 1st in Production B and 6th
in College 16-24. He will not be taking time away
from racing this month as he will now continue
racing the Canadian nationals.
All T.O.P. Riders are looking forward to pushing
themselves during the month of June and will be
ready for the final 4 rounds of the series when
racing resumes in July. If you’re ready
