Gust & Rath Win at Mystik Lucricatnts Terracross Championship
Mystik Lubricants Terracross Championship - Haydays - September 8-9 , 2012

North Branch, MN (9/13/2012) – The massive Haydays Grass Drags played host to the final event of the 2012 Mystik Lubricants Terracross Championship this past September 8-9. Billed as the official start of winter for the snowmobile world, Haydays is also the single largest snowmobile event in the world and also boasts the largest powersports swap meet in the world. It is the Midwest’s powersports Mecca and, with upwards of 60,000 powersports enthusiasts filing through the gates over the two-day weekend, it’s also the perfect stage for the Terracross Championship finale. Two separate Terracross Championship races were set to go down over the course of the weekend and in the process points leaders would be upset and two champions would be crowned.

Andrew Carlson (Mystik/Sportech) entered the event holding the points lead in the Pro Terracross Side X Side class. Carlson stunned the crowd at the first event when the newcomer claimed the win the first-ever Terracross Championship Pro Terracross Side X Side final. But Carlson was relegated to third place when veteran off-road racers Daryl Rath (Mystik/Rath Racing/FOX) and Doug Gust (Nielsen's/Maxxis) went 1-2 in Saturday’s final. On Sunday Gust bested the field and was followed by Winter X Games gold medalist Chris Burandt, who came from the third row off the start to finish on the podium. Rath finished third and Carlson was mired in eighth place. When the results were tallied Gust claimed the championship and was nine points clear of Rath and 12 points clear of Carlson.

Gust didn’t score any wins in the Pro Terracross Utility Quad class at the first Terracross Championship event held at ERX Motor Park in Elk River, Minn., this past June, but he made up for it at Haydays when he swept the finals. Gust ran away with both races leaving ERX winners Rory Beckman and Rath trading plastic for second and third in one race and Rath and Zac Zakowski to claim the rest of the podium in the other. Gust was dialed in and it was clear the veteran had something to prove after coming up empty at the first event. Ultimately, Gust would come up short in the points as Rath finished two points clear of Gust in the championship. Another two points back was Beckman. With just four points covering the Top 3 the first-ever Pro Terracross Utility Quad points championship was definitely a tight one.

The Speed & Style competition at Haydays came down to a battle between the Guetter brothers (Maxxis), Jon and Derek, with Jon throwing down a huge backflip on his way to taking the win. Jon also won the points championship after second place rider Mike Hurd crashed on his first run of the day on Sunday. Adam Thene claimed third place in the points championship.

Be sure to watch the event on CBS Sports Network Sunday, September 30 at 9PM EST and Sunday October 7 at 9PM EST.
