TPR's AMA
Legal DDR ATV Grab Bars

Hinckley, OH (3/16/2009) - DRR
ATV racers now have an AMA-legal rear grab bar option
that also is compliant with the Consumer Product
Safety Improvement Act lead requirements.
Tarantula Performance Racing’s Race Safe
and Race Safer grab bars for all youth ATV DRR
models meet the AMA racing requirement calling
for the quad’s grab bar to extend beyond
the end of the ATV’s exhaust silencer. According
to the AMA, the sanctioning body for the 2009
ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Championship
series, “The discharge end of the exhaust
pipe may not extend beyond the rear edge of the
rear grab bar.”
Currently, the stock grab bars on DRR ATVs fall
well short of meeting the AMA rule. The rear grab
bars manufactured by TPR for the DRR quads extend
a full inch beyond the exhaust tip and provide
protection for the exhaust in the event of an
end-over-end rollover.
Racers preparing for the AMA sanctioned events
this year, including the amateur season opener
March 21 in Pell City, Ala., can purchase AMA
legal rear grab bars for their DRR race quads
through DRR dealers and with TPR by calling 330-273-3456.
The TPR grab bars bolt directly on to the DRR
frame without any modifications.
Tarantula Performance Racing has obtained Certificates
of Conformity from its raw material suppliers
and its powder-coat provider stating all of the
products used in TPR’s manufacturing and
production process are either 100 percent lead
free, or they are far below the 600 parts-per-million
lead content requirement instated by the Consumer
Product Safety Commission in February.
Scott Wolfson, a spokesman for the CPSC, said
aftermarket manufacturers like TPR currently are
not required to test their products for lead content.
“They are not under an obligation to test,
because we have given a one year exemption,”
Wolfson said. “But they still have to meet
the law. It would be a wise approach to have a
level of assurance through testing that their
product is below lead levels.”
Currently, the CPSC does not require aftermarket
product manufacturers like TPR to conduct testing
on their parts, but TPR does plan to back up its
Certificates of Conformity with independent, third-party
testing on all of its youth ATV products before
the CPSC 2010 testing requirement is implemented.
Lou DeCuzzi, president of DRR ATVs, confirms that
all DRR ATV models conform to the CPSIA lead requirements
and are currently available to the public through
a large, national network of DRR dealers.
“People are trying to cover up the lead
with a paint, and you can’t do that,”
DeCuzzi said. “So we had everything that
was accessible tested. There’s so much misconception
about the entire lead laws that people don’t
understand. I think people need to understand
they can ride what they have. There are no issues
with that.”
The TPR Race Safe and Race Safer line of DRR
products debuted at the 2009 Dealer Expo in Indianapolis,
Indiana in February. The DRR rear grab bars feature
CNC mandrel bent aluminum tubing, laser cut and
precision bent mounting brackets and a sleek and
safe rounded design. The Race Safer version of
the same grab bar encapsulates the tubing in dense
foam. The foam is designed to help cushion the
rider in the event of an impact with the grab
bar during a crash, making an injury less severe.
The ‘Race Safe’ grab bars retail
for $64.95 while the ‘Race Safer’
grab bars retail for $74.95. For additional information,
