Southside Polaris' Nikolen Kushev placed
second in both 4-stroke A & Open A ATV
Classes |
North Adams, MA (6/21/2011)
- After multiple injuries and a few rider changes
in during the first couple rounds of racing at NEATV,
we were able to have a solid roster with a couple
new comers, all of which rode great despite a tight,
muddy track.
In the A classes Bulgarian rider Nikolen Kushev,
who started the season at Walden in the B classes
and moved up for round 2, has been on the podium
every weekend since including winning the Open
A overall in round 3.
In the first moto of 4-Stroke A, Nikolen got
out 3rd and held it the whole race, and with a
half lap to go, race leader Bluy had a mechanical
failure which allowed Nikolen to finish 2nd. In
moto two he got out mid pack and worked his way
up to 6th, and then gained a spot when they moved
moto winner Spader to the pack after jumping under
yellow. In Open A Nikolen got out 2nd behind Hakala,
before passing him on the back stretch and then
went on to win the moto. In moto 2 Hakala would
get the holeshot again and this time Nikolen would
have settle for 2nd, which gave him 2nd overall
in both classes.

Jesse
Onesti finished with a solid third overall
in the Open A class |
Jesse Onesti, who was picked up for round 3 after
not riding a quad since the end of last season
seemed to be getting back on track, with finishing
3rd and 4th for a 3rd overall in Open A, and with
a hard fought 8th and 11th for a 9th overall in
4-Stroke A. Next round we head to mx-207 up in
Lyman Maine which is his home track so Jesse is
really excited for that, and so are we.

Team
Southside Polaris' newest member Andy Magyan
took fourth overall in ATV B class aboard
his Polaris 450MXR ATV |
To fill the void in the B classes after Nikolen
moved up, we called Pittsburgh native Andy Magyan
who has been running the AMA Nationals on his
Can-Am, to see if he was interested in coming
up here and ride a Polaris. Andy jumped at the
chance, he was really excited to have the opportunity,
and he did not disappoint. In his first moto when
he disappeared over the spectator table top he
was 17th when he came around he was in 3rd. He
had a little trouble in one of the corners and
would end up 8th. After the race Andy said “
yeah I remembered what Bruce said about the if
I was mid pack, to stay outside on the corner
at the end of the back stretch because people
always get stuck on the inside, so I stayed outside
and it sure enough he called it”. In moto
2, Andy got out 4th and heading into that same
corner, 3rd place got into 2nd place and tipped
him over in the corner and Andy somehow squeezed
by on the inside and was able to gap himself from
the field and finished 2nd in the moto, 4th overall
for the day. In moto 1 of Open B he got out 3rd
and stayed there the whole moto, and then in moto
2 he got out towards the back and made his way
up to 7th, which earned him a 5th overall.
We also brought in Jake Gray from North Carolina
to run 4-Stroke C & Collegeboy. In the first
moto of collegeboy he was tangled up in the start
and went for a tumble. But that didn’t deter
Jake one bit, as he went out in the 2nd moto and
worked his way by some riders and finished 3rd.
In Collegeboy, he got in the 4th spot and was
in a good battle when 3rd got stuck on a berm
which forced Jake to go outside and then spun
out and would end up 8th. In moto 2 he didn’t
get out good, but was able to finish 9th in the
moto, and 8th overall.
Bruce Gaspardi who also ran collegeboy, got out
8th but was able to take advantage of the chaos
when the rider got stuck and was able to finish
3rd in moto 1, and then 8th in moto 2 for a 5th
overall. Bruce is also really looking forward
to the next round at MX-207, although it’s
not his “home track”, it is definitely
his favorite track. So look for Southside to be
at round 5 in full force.
