With the rain rolling in Thursday night into
Friday morning, we decided it would be best to
hold Bobby & Andrew back until the track dried,
which was a somewhat risky move since Bobby hadn’t
ridden the Polaris with Fox Floats or Walsh A-Arms
yet. He finally hit the track late in the afternoon
for a session to set a baseline, so they knew
what they had to work on for set up Friday night.
Saturday rolled around and Bobby headed up to
the line for the first moto of Pro-Am unlimited
on his Polaris Outlaw, and when the made it through
the first turn he was 6th, and he’d stay
there for the entire heat which put him into the
semi along with fellow Rath Polaris Rider Casey
Martin. Bobby brought the quad around and the
guys went to town on it to getting it ready for
the the semi. Once he was situated on the line,
they made a couple last second tweaks and then
it was all up to Bobby.
This time when the gate dropped he lept of the
line and was first the corner followed by Casey
and together the two of them checked out of the
field with over a six second lead on the 3rd place
rider which put the Polaris’ into the 2nd
moto. For the 2nd moto Bobby would get off the
line last and by the end of the first lap he was
up to 15th and at the end of the moto he had made
his way up to the 7th spot, and solidified him
a 9th place overall for the day.
Teammate Andrew Ruel, who ran for the team last
season as well, making his Pell City Debut in
the B division. He didn’t have the best
of the luck in the morning getting out of the
gate 15th and making his way up to a 10th place
finish in the 450 B moto 1 which put him into
the semi where he would take the holeshot and
the win to move onto the 2nd moto which would
be Sunday. In the 4-Stroke B class he would have
better luck finishing 5th in the first moto putting
him directly into the 2nd moto on Sunday.
That night they worked with getting both Bobby
& Andrew more comfortable on the bike, and
it seemed to work because they both looked great.
Andrew had a bit of tough luck in the 450 B moto
2 getting tangled in the first turn but managed
to salvage a 15th place finish & 15th overall.
Then Bobby went out in the time session for the
Pro-Am Production class and had the 6th fastest
time, giving him a great pick for the first moto.
He gated up for that just as the skies began to
open up, so the gate dropped and at after the
first turn Bobby was in last, but that didn’t
deter him one bit as he began to pick his way
through traffic and at the end of the moto he
was sitting in the 5th position.
Then Andrew headed out for his 2nd moto of the
4-Stroke B class where he got out in the top half
of the field and ended up 6th, tying him for fifth
but ended up 6th overall which is a great confidence
boost for him. Then a little while later it was
time for Bobby to run again and he was beginning
to feel confident with the machine.
This time Bobby got off the line 12th and made
his way up to the 8th position which gave him
a 5th overall for the day. This was an amazing
accomplishment for Bobby who didn’t ride
the bike till Friday afternoon, and for Team Southside,
as this is the first year we will be going for
a National championship and couldn’t do
it without great riders & crew, along with
our great sponsors with their awesome products.
See you all in Bowling Green!
