Team Colin's / Felipe Velez Take 2 Podiums at 2012 Baja 1000

Rafael Torres' Honda 450R ATV Race team took the win in the SCORE Baja 1000 Class 24 |
Baja California, Mexico (11/20/2012) – After a long hard month of prepping and pre-running the Baja Peninsula the team had problems before the race and decided to team up with Brandon Brown to race at the last minute. We both had problems to race on our own teams and got together on are on the top class.
The 2a Elka Shocks / Roll Design / Duncan Racing Honda 450R ATV was the first quad off the starting line in Ensenada
Baja California. The Team was having a great run with no problems until we got to
Cruzero and bent the steering stem and lost 10 minutes. We then got back in the race and
had a clean run and grabbed the lead on El Arco before Vizcaino and held
the lead for 2 hours to Loreto.
We
lead for almost half the race, but lost a clutch around north of Loreto, with just
about 300 miles left to go. After repairing it enough to get to the pits
(the bike was in an almost impossible spot due to rough conditions from the
hurricane), we did a quick clutch swap and headed for the finish line placing second. It's
amazing what happens when you don't give up!
After a long race we were happy
to finish the race and be the first ATV on the finish line aboard
Elka Shocks / Roll Design / Duncan in the Pro ATV class 25.
It was a hard fought battle for all teams! Everyone had issues this race, and the adrenaline was high in all classes. The Can-Am / Motoworks team finished ahead of us, and Wayne Matlock's team broke
about 3/4 through the race.

made this race possible for us. We were very happy to be on the podium!
In the Pro Class 24, we had solid finish in first
place and 4th overall in the ATV class. We were also were awarded the Class 24 Championship and have the 100a plate for next year
season 2013. We had a lot of fun and enjoy the Baja 1000 with all are friends and the
team.
