San Felipe, Mexico (3/12/2011)
– A the 25th Annual San Felipe 250 commences
festivities on Friday, Brandon Brown and his team
will have been training, tuning, and pre-running
in Mexico for almost a week. Team Quad75Dezert,
led by Quad75 himself, is in Mexico to defend their
Class 24 title. For the 250, Brandon is once again
joined by team rider and head mechanic from S&S
Motorsports, Kenny Sanford, rider Jorie Williams,
who is returning to the team from last year, &
new for the 250 is WORCS pro rider Robbie Mitchell.
I'm very excited to have the opportunity [to race]!"
Robbie stated, "I have known Brandon and Jorie
for a long time and think we will make a great team.
I'm not quite sure what to expect but I think a
lot of the fun grows from that. Robbie's sponsors
were gracious enough to let us borrow him. We are
very happy to have Robbie on board for the 250 this
year, said Brandon. Coming off of a winning season
for 2010, claiming the Class 24 win for the year
and for the 1000, as well as the ATV Overall win
for the 1000, the team is optimistic about 2011.
New for the 250 is "Team 2." Also running
Class 24, Team 2 consists of
Jamie Kirkpatrick, who was a support member during
the 1000, Greg Kirk, a
longtime desert racer that contributed to Brandon's
start in the desert
world, and Brian Watkins, a Northwest local who
has shown strong endurance
skills in races there. "Team 2 was Jamie's
idea and I was really for it.
Desert racing is a lot of fun and it will be nice
to have someone I know
well racing with us. It's great to know someone
has your back in case
anything goes wrong," Brandon said. The team
has been in Mexico since
Sunday the 6th, and started pre-running Monday.
"Things are going well,"
team mechanic Kenny Sanford said, "So far
no big problems. It's been work,
but we've had time to enjoy some tacos, too."
Brandon and Kenny continued
to say the teams looked good and that they looked
forward to the 252 mile
race.
16 teams have entered Class 24. Team 2 will be
running the 106A, drawing 6th off the line, while
Team 1 will leave last off the line. Friday March
11th is Contingency Day & tech inspection
for the race bikes, as well as the riders' meeting.
Saturday the race starts at 6am for motorcycles
and is expected to last about 6 hours, however
racers have 11 hours to complete the course. "I'm
always excited about racing in Mexico. As we do
more of these races, it doesn't get easier but
you do know what to expect and what you should
be preparing for, Brandon Brown said, We're lucky
to have a great support team of friends, family,
and of course sponsors helping in preparations
all the way through the finish of the race."
