Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico (6/7/2010)
– The 42nd Annual SCORE Baja 500
was held this past weekend on Mexico’s Baja
peninsula, and thirty eight total ATV race teams
entered the event in one of the four atv classes
available, but once again, it was Matlock Racing
team with Wayne Matlock, Wes Miller and Josh Caster
leading the charge on the Honda TRX 700XX over the
438 mile long course to finish line to take their
second win of the season with nearly an hour to
spare over the second place team of Mexico’s
Javier Robles on their Honda TRX 700XX ATV.
Matlock started and rode to race mile 77. Josh
Caster rode from mile 77 to mile 200; Matlock
rode from 200 to 250; Wes Miller rode from mile
250 to 402; and Matlock rode from mile 402 to
the finish.
“The race was really good. It was definitely
a challenging course. We had some problems in
the beginning of the course and had some slip-ups
in the pits. After that, we put our heads down
and everybody did their job and here we are. It
was a pretty beat-up course this time but it was
fun. I’d like to thank all of my teammates
for getting the quad back up there and working
hard and got us up into first place,” said
Matlock.
Christy Racing’s Craig Christy claimed
the final spot on the podium with their TRX 450R
just under 20 minutes behind Javier Robles with
Josh Edwards and Miquel Olivas rounding out the
top five.
Roberto Villalobos claimed the Class 24 Pro ATV
Win and finished an impressive 5th overall and
finishing just 4 seconds behind fourth overall’s
Josh Edwards in Class 25 with adjusted time.
“When Roberto was out there around race
mile 160 or 170, he passed every single (Class
24 ATV) but then he fell and we had a little problem
with the suspension. We got that fixed and had
no other problems. The engine worked great. This
is my first SCORE win in Baja and it feels good”,
said Jorge Acosta
Brandon Brown claimed the 2nd spot just thirteen
minutes behind Roberto Villalobos, and Craig Christy’s
second team once again claimed the final spot
on the podium for Christy Racing.
Rob Ransford claimed the Utility ATV Class win
and Guillermo Berenguer brought home the Sport
ATV class win.
