Fallbrook, CA (9/14/2011) - Washougal
WA It's a favorite course amongst WORCS racing regulars;
a pleasant change of scenery from the desert terrain
that is common with most of the WORCS track circuit.
Washougal MX is well known for its loamy corners,
dense tree sections and excellent spectator viewing
areas - but round six of the 2012 WORCS series proved
to be somewhat unpredictable.
First, there was the heat. Record breaking temperatures
topped ninety-six degrees during Saturday's racing
- with humidity! And if that wasn't hot enough,
the WORCS tractor trailer was destroyed in an
unfortunate fire. To top things off, Washougal
combined ATVs and dirt bike classes at Washougal
in an effort to cut costs - two weekends of racing
combined into two days, and without a support
trailer. Track conditions were brutal, and the
dust often hampered racer visibility. However,
in true works style, Shaun Reddish and his WORCS
crew pulled off a prompt and trouble-free weekend
of racing.
In Sunday's Pro-Am Main event, Roll Design/Elka
riders Chase Thomas and Garrin Fuller finished
first and second respectively, with Keith Johnson
finishing just outside of the podium in fourth.
Thomas's overall time bested more than half of
the pro field, with a fastest lap time of 08:51.95.
Fuller was forced into dealing with a flat tire,
but still charged back into second.
The Johnson Family put together a Pro-Am Holeshot
Award of $200 in remembrance of #312 Casey Johnson.
Roll Design/Elka rider DJ Noerr captured this
first award of its kind.
In the Pro class, Can-Am's Josh Frederick was
first through turn one, with the MCR/Roll Design/Elka
Honda of Beau Baron in chase. Baron caught Frederick
in turn two, and then out torqued the #1 plate
holder up hill. Baron led the first half of the
race, but arm pump ensued, allowing Frederick
and Jeremie Warnia to close the gap, and then
pass him during a pit stop. Refreshed, Baron caught
and passed Warnia, but lap traffic only widened
the gap to Frederick. This was Beau Barons third
podium in a row, all with second place finishes.
He is currently third in Pro class series points.
Other Roll Design Pro Finishers- Jarrod McClure
nearly captured his first WORCS podium with a
fourth place finish. MCR's David Haagsma rode
strong and claimed the fifth spot, with Dustin
Nelson finishing just behind.
Continuing to prove its dominance in ATV racing,
Roll Design equipped machines numbered four among
the top six pro finishers.
