Hutchinson, MN (10/9/2007) - The challenge was presented, build a Suzuki 700 King Quad and race the Maxxis ATV EnduroCross. Rath has experience from racing the WPSA series Quad Terrain Challenge but wasn’t sure what to expect here.

With an impressive first showing Rath placed 2nd in the Pro Utility Class. Rath stated, “ It was important for me to keep the quad as stock as possible- I wanted to see how it would fair against some of the highly modified cross country “Open 4x4” race quads- I am extremely happy with it’s performance today. I proved it will be a contender.” Using the production rules as a guideline Rath added Dunlop Tires -PEP shocks- Yoshimura Exhaust System w/ mapping, a Precision Steering Stabilizer, Douglas Wheels and TireBalls.

The question on everyone’s mind was how is an indoor obstacle course going to be built with rocks, logs and water crossings and make it challenging. The answer was simple- the EnduroCross crew; they built a course that challenged some of the most experienced riders. Once the team arrived and checked out the track on Saturday and watched the motorcycles it was clear Sunday was not only going to be fun, but challenging, and very difficult.

Starting with a set of practice laps that included a timed practice to set gate picks in the heat races followed by a short intermission it was show time. The heat races were grueling only allowing the top two to advance to the main- making the remaining field battle in a LCQ for start position. Securing his transfer spot in the heat Rath set out to do some tweaking on his new ride. “ It was a learning process for me today- Kevin Mummah from Lost Creek Cycles made the trip to help me get this quad up front. With the little adjustments we made after each time on the track – the King Quad just kept getting faster”

The main event turned into survival of the fittest- the track took its best shot at many of the riders. After an eight lap main event Rath lead a strong charge for the front and secured a second place finish. Rath’s closing words “ I couldn’t have asked for a better first showing- we have the benchmark we were looking for, and now know what this ATV can do. There were a lot of people behind me in this, and came through in a very short time frame.” as he smiled and started jotting notes in his worn out race log.
