Pro Motorsports' Matt Hancock WORCS Round 5 Race Report
Matt Hancock Second in WORCS Open A Class

Tempe, AZ (5/14/2014) - It was a successful weekend for Pro Motorsports’ Matt Hancock at round five of the 2014 WORCS series with strong finishes, giving Hancock the points lead in Open A and second in series points in the Pro-am class. In the SxS 1000 class, Hancock rounds out the top three in points as the series heads to its mid-season break.

It was the first time for the Desert Empire Fairgrounds in Ridgecrest, CA to host the WORCS series, which offered plenty of track variations and challenges. In addition to the traditional off-road and endurocross, the course also included asphalt and concrete, keeping things interesting.

In the Open A class, Hancock had a good start in second and pushed hard. “My Maxxis tires hooked up awesome off the start. I was in second and caught up to the leader, but we got into a bit of traffic and he was able to pull away a bit,” explained Hancock.

The number 1a racer kept pushing forward and finished strong in second place, allowing him to keep the Open A class points lead. “It was a really good race. The track was pretty rough, but my Elka shocks worked great out there,” said Hancock.

Hancock qualified fourth for Sunday’s Pro-am race and was looking strong as he left the start. “I got a decent start; my Sparks engine was running great and was really good for this course since it was a very fast track. I did have a little trouble in the log section, but I got through it. I finished in fourth and I am still second in points,” Hancock stated.

In the WORCS SxS 1000 class, Hancock faced the challenges of high winds and a dust storm that made visibility challenging. Hancock got pushed out on the start, but quickly worked up to second place. Hancock fell back to third in the second lap and was trying to regain his position, but unfortunately he lost a belt and his race was cut short. “I was holding strong out there and cruising in third, but I lost a belt and that was it. I’m still in the top three in points, and I plan to move up for the next round,” Hancock said.
