Karen Umphress
Named New NOHVCC Project Coordinator
The Minnesota-based OHV
advocate brings a wealth of experience to her
new position with the National Off-Highway Vehicle
Conservation Council
Washington, D.C. (5/7/2008) - The
National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council
is pleased to welcome Karen Umphress of Jordon,
Minnesota to the staff as Project Coordinator. She
joins Senior Project Coordinator Jack Terrell who
stepped up to his new position following the April
1 retirement of Dana Bell.
Umphress' primary duties will be to assist the
Senior Project Coordinator and other staff with
coordination, planning, and implementation of
OHV Recreation Management and OHV Association
Development Workshops. In addition she will be
providing advice, assistance, materials, and other
information to NOHVCC partners, associates, recreationists,
land management agencies, as well as managing
and assisting in the development of projects such
as educational programs, management documents,
manuals, and other tools to promote responsible
OHV recreation.
"We're very excited to have Karen join
the NOHVCC team," said NOHVCC Executive Director
Russ Ehnes. "She brings many years of experience
as an OHV advocate and also has a fantastic skill
set that will really compliment our other dedicated
staff members. She's an OHV rider, a nice person,
and will no doubt put her heart into every project
she works on."
NOHVCC President Dan Kleen adds,"Karen
brings with her many years of grassroots experience
and has successfully represented the OHV community
in Minnesota in many ways. Her first hand experience
working with riders, clubs, associations, and
state and federal agencies will be put to good
use at the NOHVCC. We knew filling the void left
by Dana Bell would be a big challenge and we think
Karen is the right person for the job. We have
certainly enjoyed working with her as our NOHVCC
Minnesota Associate Partner in the past. On behalf
of the NOHVCC Board of Directors and our NOHVCC
Team, we would like to congratulate and welcome
Karen as our new NOHVCC Project Coordinator."
"I am very excited with this new opportunity
to work with the NOHVCC," said Karen soon
after accepting the position. "Over the past
few years, I have had the privilege of meeting
many of the State Partners and Associates at the
Conferences and various events. I am now looking
forward to being able to work professionally with
a group of people who are so dedicated to making
the Off-Highway Vehicle community stronger by
educating other recreationists and by helping
to provide quality OHV riding opportunities in
their states." Karen can be reached at 612-965-8619
